Essi Tommila CREATING A CHILDREN’S GAMIFIED PICTURE BOOK Bachelor’s thesis Game Design 2018 Author Degree Time Essi Tommila Bachelor of Culture April 2018 and Arts Title 41 pages Creating a children’s gamified picture book 2 pages of appendices Commissioned by - Supervisor Marko Siitonen Sarah-Jane Leavey Abstract This thesis was based on the game The Little Cat and The Rainbow Egg which is an interactive gamified storybook for children from the ages of 5 to 10. The game was published on Google Play and can be played with a tablet or a phone. The purpose of this thesis project was to work as a showcase of the idea of creating a well- functioning picture book for children with gamified elements that enhance the immersion of storytelling. The goal was to make a professional and functional product with emphasis on the visual style. The game was produced by three people, programming and music were done by outside partners, the author was working as a lead designer and artist. The design and idea of the product is based on theoretical backgrounds that are presented in the first part of the thesis. This thesis report answers to the questions how to gamify a storybook and how to illustrate and add interactive elements to a story so that it works as a children’s medium. The thesis report focuses on the process of making the project from the design standpoint and the main topics include interactive illustration, visual directing, children’s illustration, and publishing of the product. Other notable things the report talks about are storyboarding, art, stylizing of illustrations and technical development such as programming, animation and music.

KEENE, Carolyn Harriet Stratemeyer Adams Geboren: 1892. I pretend to fly on dancing skies, I feel the love, true love that keeps me going, I want a flag, a flag of peace, I worry for all the mistakes I make, I cry for broken hearts and lives, I am a growing teen who reads I understand how loneliness can hurt, I say, “Don’t give in” I dream of happiness, not money or fame, I try to love my enemies, I hope for peace and self-respect, I am a growing teen who reads. Brandon, age 12 3 ABSTRACT AT THE CROSSING-PLACES: REPRESENTATIONS OF MASCULINITY IN SELECTED 21ST CENTURY CHILDREN’S TEXTS by Janice Robertson Supervisor : Prof. R.A. Northover Department : Theory of Literature This study explores the representations of masculinity in selected contemporary children’s adventure literature. According to John Stephens (2002:x), a problem for boys, both in narrative fictions and in the world, is that hegemonic masculinity ‘appears simultaneously to propose a schema for behaviour and to insist on their subordination as children, to conflate agency with hegemonic masculinity, and to disclose that, for them, such agency is illusory’.

• For Immediate Release the WORLD's OLDEST TEDDY BEAR
For Immediate Release 30 August 2006 Contact: Zoë Schoon 020.7752.3121 [email protected] THE WORLD’S OLDEST TEDDY BEAR MUSEUM TO BE SOLD BY PRIVATE TREATY AT CHRISTIE’S SOUTH KENSINGTON The Teddy Bear Museum, Stratford-upon-Avon South Kensington – Christie’s are pleased to present, by private treaty, the sale of the world’s oldest Teddy Bear Museum, based in Stratford-upon-Avon. The award-winning museum was opened by self- confessed teddy bear enthusiast and well known broadcaster Gyles Brandreth and his wife Michele, on 4th July 1988. Since then, this popular little museum has gone from strength to strength in one of England’s most celebrated towns. Stratford-upon-Avon attracts five million tourists annually and visitors to the Teddy Bear Museum have ranged from royalty to Tony Blair’s bear, Lynton, who recently spent his summer holidays at the Museum. The collection, personally put together by Brandreth, numbers a thousand bears and related items. It is to be sold as a going concern, along with the Tudor building (once the property of King Henry VIII) that has been its home for the last 18 years. “The Museum has come of age and it’s now time for us to find new owners for the museum and its unique collection. Our children are all grown-up and my work commitments mean that I simply don’t have the time to give it the care and attention it deserves. We want to find new owners for the Museum who will love it as much as we do and see it go from strength to strength.” Said Gyles Brandreth Highlights of the collection include several early Steiff bears, the earliest being Growler, a much- sought-after Steiff rod-bear, circa 1904.
