HBO PREMIERES FOURTH SEASON OF BOARDWALK EMPIRE Miami, FL – September 24, 2013 – HBO Latin America announced that it will premiere the fourth season of the 17-time Emmy® winning, highly acclaimed original drama series, Boardwalk Empire, on October 6th. Created by Terrence Winter (Emmy® Award-winning writer of The Sopranos) and directed and produced by Martin Scorsese (Academy Award® winning director), this one-hour drama series chronicles the life and times of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (Emmy® nominee and Golden Globe® winner Steve Buscemi), Atlantic City’s undisputed czar at a time when Prohibition proved to be a major catalyst in the rise of organized crime in America. Season 4 picks up eight months after the end of Season 3, in February 1924 – the year jazz “really came into being,” with fictional dancers/singers as well as the ubiquitous Charleston dance. Having barely survived an overthrow by Gyp Rossetti in Season 3, Nucky Thompson is laying low at the end of the Boardwalk as the season begins. Eventually he’ll butt heads with Mayor Bader, battle with his brother Eli about the fate of Eli’s college-bound son Willie, and set his sights on the lucrative drug and real-estate opportunities in Florida. Most of the drama in this season’s twelve episodes will take place in Atlantic City, and musical showpieces will be set in the Onyx Club (modeled after the Cotton Club), to be run by Chalky White. Some of the action will also take place in Florida and Chicago. In addition to Nucky, returning major characters include Margaret Thompson (Kelly Macdonald), who is still estranged from Nucky; Gillian Darmody (Gretchen Mol), battling demons of her murderous past while seeking custody of Tommy, Jimmy’s son; Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon), still embroiled in the conflict between Al Capone (Stephen Graham) and Dean O’Banion (Arron Shiver), while trying to curb the free-spending habits of wife Sigrid (Christiane Seidel); Willie Thompson (recast with Ben Rosenfield), who turns to his uncle to impress wealthy classmates; Chalky White (Michael Kenneth Williams), whose nightclub opening is tempered by racism and rivalry; Eli Thompson (Shea Whigham), whose attempts to steer Willie clear of Nucky’s influence spawns new fraternal tensions; Richard Harrow (Jack Huston), who reverts to old habits after giving up Tommy, but finds new purpose with the help of his sister Julia (Wrenn Schmidt); Arnold Rothstein (Michael Stuhlbarg), wary of Nucky’s intentions after the carnage in S3; “Lucky” Luciano (Vincent Piazza) and Meyer Lansky (Anatol Yusef), testing out the waters amidst a land boom in Florida; and others.
