MARK PARISH SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER BURLINGTON, VT I would like to update you regarding the opening of the Church. As mentioned in my latest update letter the bishop has allowed us to open the doors of the Church for people to come for private devotion only. At this time, unfortunately, there is still no public mass being offered. Please know that I am offering mass daily for you all and most of these masses are live streamed through facebook and then posted on our website roughly 1 hour to 1 and ½ hours after the original start time of the mass. We are also updat- ing the schedule for the open hours of the Church due to the work that is continuing in the Church ac- cording to the Revitalization Plan for the Church. I will be sending out a more detailed update soon re- garding this work and the timing of it. For our parishioners with existing medical conditions and those in the at-risk age groups: Due to the increased risk of illness, we still encourage you to stay home and stay safe. For those who choose to come for private devotion there is a limit of 10 people and we will have specific locations for you to sit so that we can continue to disinfect the area regularly, keeping it safe for everyone. For now here is the updated times available for private devotion in the Church: Monday through Friday 5PM -7PM Saturday and Sunday, 3PM -7PM ~ Father Dallas THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT St. Mark Men’s Fellowship - Online Meeting “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Prov- Figures for the weeks beginning May 10th and May 17th erbs 27:17 St. Mark Men’s Fellowship group gathers once will be posted in next weeks bulletin. AMEN SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER VOCATION CORNER “Look for the Silver Lining” In 1919, the year after the Spanish Flu pandemic, Jerome Kern and B.G. DeSylva wrote a song that says to “Look for the Silver Lining whene’er a cloud appears in the blue.” Romans 8:28 tells us “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.” As we find ourselves in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we may wonder where is the silver lining? How can God bring good out of such a devastating dark “cloud”? One “silver lining” is that many of us find our busy schedules suddenly less cluttered, with more time at home. God can help us use this time to work on our rela- tionship with Him and apply ourselves to discerning a vocation. Bishop Robert Barron suggests five steps to help in discerning a vocation to the priesthood; but they can be equally helpful in discern- ing other vocations, too. 1. The gifts of the Holy Spirit “test.” Look up the fruits of the Holy Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. When you think about the vocation, you feel the Lord may be calling you to, and the things that vocation would require of you, does that increase love, joy, peace, etc.? Or does it decrease those fruits in you? 2. Prayer. Spend time in prayer, especially before the Blessed Sacrament, and ask God if this is His will for you. Ask Him to show you the path He wants you to follow, then be alert for signs pointing you in the right direction. [Online Adoration is provided by Father Dallas after the 6:00 p.m. Wednesday Mass, also daily from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on EWTN’s website.] 3. Read the Bible. Spend time in God’s Word. Be attentive to the stories of how God led His people. Notice patterns of how they dis- cerned His will for them. How does this relate to your own life? Read the Bible carefully, and see how your life fits into these pat- terns. 4. Go to Mass every day if you’re discerning. If possible, attend daily Mass. Pay close attention to the texts and readings at Mass, and what they are doing for you. (Although unable to physically attend right now, our Church and Diocese, plus EWTN, are provid- ing Masses online.) 5. Pay close attention to the people around you, especially parents, friends, and your circle of acquaintances. Do they see character- istics in you that indicate you would be a good priest, religious, husband-father/wife-mother, etc.? Often, those around us can see these indicators more clearly that we can. Bonus. Find a good spiritual director to accompany you on your path of discernment. And be sure to ask family and friends to pray for you. (Questions? Comments? She became a renowned pro-life leader and brilliant debater, who was struck with breast cancer and died at the young age of forty-one. Ruth’s inspiring story is told primarily through her humorous, sparkling, and insightful letters in which her realistic cheer- fulness shines. A biographical overview by her husband fills in important details about her life and a collection of her talks on abortion, faith, and being a Catholic wife and mother conclude the volume. Ruth Pakaluk exemplified the powerful integrity of someone who lived what she believed. She was steadfastly committed to Christ and to the culture of life, and this commitment was manifested in her consistent affirmation of life in her family, in society, and even in the face of her own death.
