The Male Bag Foundation Media Release Fighting Prostate Cancer News Release Riverina Day Surgery to introduce leading prostate cancer biopsy procedure thanks to The Male Bag Foundation • The Male Bag Foundation (MBF) has provided a $30,000 grant to Riverina Day Surgery (RDS) in Wagga Wagga to purchase a Transperineal Biopsy Machine (TBM) that will be available to public patients. • The MBF is a charity run by volunteers. Its objective is to reduce the incidence of prostate cancer in regional Australia. Its fund-raising postie bike ride last October targeted the Murrumbidgee Health Care District where the prevalence of prostate cancer is unacceptably high. The ride called in at major towns in the Murrumbidgee region and Australia Post riders led the tour into Wagga. Last November, the Foundation invited NSW regional hospitals to apply for grant assistance to purchase TBM equipment. • Foundation Patron David Parkin OAM said, “The Foundation saw an enormous opportunity to help blokes, families and townships across the Murrumbidgee Health Care District – an area with more than 320,000 residents. Our grants to Riverina Day Surgery and Griffith Hospital guarantee that the world’s best practice biopsy procedure will be available across the entire Health District by mid-2019.” He ended by saying, “We also acknowledge involvement of Megan King, and the team at the Riverina Day Surgery and Cura Day Hospitals Group. They took the initiative, wanting to deliver TBM services to this often under-recognised group as soon as possible. The result is a massive win for public health in the region. The TBM will be commissioned in a few months and when available, its use will augment current approaches to men’s health and save lives through early diagnosis. -

(the Summaries) Australia Post undertook consultation with Christine Holgate, in accordance with section 27A of the FOI Act. Christine Holgate’s Comments As a part of that consultation process, Ms Holgate reviewed the Summaries and provided her written comments to Australia Post. While those comments are not required to be produced in response to the FOI request, they have been provided to the FOI applicant at Ms Holgate’s request. Australian High Commission, Kuala Lumpur MEDIA RELEASE 15 DECEMBER 2017 Deepening Australia’s engagement with the Muslim world – visit to Malaysia by Australia’s Special Envoy to the OIC, Mr Ahmed Fahour AO Australia’s Special Envoy to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr Ahmed Fahour AO, visited Malaysia for a one-day official visit yesterday. Mr Fahour called on Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, to discuss Australia’s engagement with the OIC, Islamic banking and finance, as well as key challenges facing the Muslim world. They also shared experiences on countering violent extremism. Mr Fahour was treated to a tour and prayers at Masjid Negara with the Grand Imam, Tan Sri Syaikh Ismail Muhammad. He also had lunch with local experts and commentators, to exchange views on trends in Islam in Australia and Malaysia. A highlight for Mr Fahour was a visit to the “Faith, Fashion, Fusion: Muslim Women’s Style in Australia” exhibition at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, which is being displayed for the first time internationally with the support of the Australian Government and Lendlease Malaysia. Developed by the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney, “Faith, Fashion Fusion” explores the experiences and achievements of Australian Muslim women and how they express their faith through fashion. It also displays Australia’s growing modest fashion market and the work of a new generation of Muslim designers and entrepreneurs. Mr Fahour, who is also the Patron of the Islamic Museum of Australia said, “The exhibition showcases the diversity of Australia’s Muslim communities and the significant contribution they make to Australia’s contemporary, multicultural society.” Mr Fahour welcomed these efforts that help to build understanding and respect between the Islamic community and other faiths and cultures. -

The briefing materials are attached and are largely based on the information disclosed during the full year results announcement. “NAB’s Australian Region continues to deliver excellent results in a challenging market, demonstrating increased revenue growth and a tight focus on cost control,” Mr Fahour said. “This is an outstanding achievement when viewed in the context of the external environment over the course of the year. “Throughout this difficult time NAB has continued to invest in our business by developing new brands such as UBank, extending our microfinance initiatives, delivering new products such as the Clear home loan, and commencing new infrastructure initiatives such as our Next Generation platform. “NAB has remained strong through these challenging conditions, and continues to focus on providing excellent support and service to our customers,” Mr Fahour said. Australian Region Financial Performance The Australia Region delivered cash earnings growth (before IoRE) of 15.8% and underlying profit growth of 19.3% over the prior comparative period. Revenue growth of 10.1% was an excellent result achieved in a very challenging environment. The strong performance of cash earnings growth of 18.5% by the Australia Banking business reflects continued momentum in business lending and consumer deposit gathering. -

6 5,6.0$1$*(0(17 Background 6.1 Risk management is ‘the systematic application of management policies, procedures and practices to the tasks of identifying, analysing, assessing, treating and monitoring risk’. 1 Risk management helps to mitigate against adverse events occurring. This includes taking action to avoid or reduce exposures to the costs or other effects of events occurring rather than reacting after an event has taken place. Risk management, if conducted effectively, will help to achieve more effective corporate performance. MAB/MIAC states that prudent risk management will give: a more rigorous basis for strategic planning as a result of a structured consideration of the key elements of risk; no costly surprises because agencies are identifying and managing undesirable risks; better outcomes in terms of program effectiveness and efficiency; greater openness and transparency in decision making and ongoing management processes; and a better preparedness for and facilitation of positive outcomes from subsequent internal/external review and audit processes.2 6.2 In recent times, risk management techniques are being applied in both the private and public sectors as a means of focusing on cost, quality and financial performance. 1 MAB/MIAC Report No.22, October 1996, p. 52. 2 MAB/MIAC Report No.22, October 1996, p. 12. 88 GBE CORPORATE GOVERNANCE 6.3 The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) suggested that a greater focus on risk management 'will come with the advent of the move to electronic commerce and the greater use of the internet for business purposes.'3 6.4 Ultimately, risk management is the responsibility of the GBE board. -

It is shaping up to be a challenging year with the conservatives trying to get the privatisation of Australia Post back on the agenda. Members of long-standing will remember we fought them off in 1998, and we must get ready to do it again. Also of concern are proposals to down-grade service standards. ‘Next day delivery’ means protection for our jobs, penalty rates and ensures that over-time is required on certain days. It is well worth protecting not only for the sake of our customers but for our own job and income security. There are also suggestions that the Aussie Post Network should be carved up, with big business eager to get their hands on our Parcel business. That is why we are kick-starting a new “Hands Off Aussie Post” campaign.
