Ever since its establishment in 1906, the CTHS, with uncompromising integrity have committed to assist and afford a means for the promotion of the interests of those engaged in the breeding of Thoroughbreds in Canada. The CTHS aims to ensure a viable future for its members by providing assistance and representation within the Thoroughbred Breeding Industry. The publication of the statistical review is in keeping with our commitment to compile and disseminate information to members and also acts as a resource to strengthen our engagement with our stakeholders. When reviewing the wealth of data included in this publication it is a clear testament to the Horse Industry’s strength and passion that we continue to see the successes of our Canadian Breeders, Canadian Sires and Canadian-Bred’s both nationally and internationally. Provincial Sales Stakes Eligibility, Sale Dates & Sales Stakes Races Offered: Yearlings must meet Sales Stakes eligibility requirements in the Province in which they ran through a CTHS sanctioned Yearling Sale. In addition, if required, the Yearling must continue to meet eligibility requirements in the Province in which they sold. The current eligibility requirements by Province are as follows: BRITISH COLUMBIA: A Yearling is eligible for the Sales Stakes Series that passes through the BC Division Sale where the full commission and nomination fee are paid to the CTHS and an annual nomination amount is paid to remain eligible.     THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2017 LOOKING TO BOLSTER WHAT THE TAX CHANGE MEANS TO A HORSEPLAYER by Joe Bianca REGIONAL RACING, Last week, the NTRA announced that a decade-long effort to modernize tax regulations for horseplayers was set to become STRONACH TO CLOSE FARM law. Its CEO Alex Waldrop recounted Tuesday in the TDN the lobbying efforts, stalled bills and fighting through bureaucracy that brought the industry to this unmitigated victory. The crucial turning point occurred after the NTRA, acting on suggestions from prominent horseplayers like Steve Crist and Andy Beyer, as well as its key lobbyist on the Hill, decided to stop trying to go through the morass of Congress and instead petition the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service directly to make the change. That proved to be what pushed the effort across the finish line, thanks in large part to two comment periods, one in early 2015 and one at the end of 2016, where thousands of horseplayers wrote in and explained why the current tax law was unfair, ridiculously out of date and a drain on them as well as the industry at large. Britain's premier all-aged 12-furlong contest, worth a boosted £1.215 million this year, takes place at 3.50pm on Saturday, July 25. Golden Horn extended his perfect record to five races on July 4 in the 10-furlong Group One Coral- Eclipse at Sandown Park, beating older opponents for the first time in great style. The three-year-old Cape Cross colt, owned by breeder Anthony Oppenheimer and trained by John Gosden in Newmarket, captured Britain's premier Classic, the Investec Derby, over 12 furlongs at Epsom Downs impressively on June 6 after being supplemented following a runaway Betfred Dante Stakes success at York in May. If successful at Ascot on July 25, Golden Horn would also become the fourth horse capture the Derby, Eclipse and King George in the same year. ËËË Three horses have completed the Derby/Eclipse/King George treble in the same year - Nashwan (1989), Mill Reef (1971) and Tulyar (1952). ËËË The 2001 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes saw Galileo become the first Derby winner at Epsom Downs to win the Ascot contest since Lammtarra in 1995.
