FAQ FOR THE APPLICATION OF INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP (MIS), MINISTRY OF HIGHER EDUCATION (MOHE) FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021

1. When is the application deadline? This offer is expected to be opened on 1st March 2021 until 30th April 2021.

2. Who can apply for MIS? For the year 2021, MOHE cordially invites graduates (full time Master/ PhD) from the following nations for the Academic Year of 2021/2022: i. Brunei Darussalam ii. Cambodia iii. Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste iv. Philippines v. vi. Lao PDR vii. Myanmar viii. ix. x. xi. Kingdom of Morocco xii. Palestine

3. What is the level of study for MIS application? MIS Scholarships cover only full-time postgraduate students [(Master/ PhD) courses] starting October 2021 Academic Session.

4. What is the eligibility criteria for MIS application? Applicants must COMPLY with the following criteria: a. Not more than 40 and 45 years of age for Master and PhD respectively. b. For Master’s Degree Program, applicant should obtain a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a minimum CGPA of 3.5 at Bachelor Degree level. PhD Program applicant should obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or very good result at Masters Degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. c. Proof of English Language Proficiency:

i. Scanned copy of the original proof of English Language Proficiency such as IELTS (minimum total score 6.5); or TOEFL internet-based test, iBT (minimum total score of 92); or ii. Applicants obtaining Degrees with English as medium of instructions may also be accepted (evidence is a prerequisite). d. A written proposal with minimum of 1000 words, relevant to the field of studies.

5. What is the areas of study for MIS? The priority will be given to the following areas of study: i. Science and Engineering ii. Agriculture and Fisheries iii. Economics and Islamic Finance iv. Information and Communication Technology v. Biotechnology vi. Biosecurity and Food Safety vii. Infrastructure and Utility viii. Environmental Studies *Applicants may choose any related course within the areas mentioned above.

6. How do I apply for MIS? All applications and supporting documents must be submitted through our online application system via the link https://biasiswa.mohe.gov.my/INTER/index.php This system will be used throughout the application and selection process, and applicants may be asked to log back in at various points during the process to receive updates on your application status, or to submit documents.

7. What documents are needed to apply for the scholarship? All the documents listed below are COMPULSORY and to be UPLOADED via the online application system (scanned and save in PDF format): i. A certified copy of Passport as evidence of nationality (minimum of 6 months’ validity); ii. A Certified Copy of Academic Transcript;

▪ Record of all the courses taken throughout the degree programme must be reflected in the academic transcripts; ▪ Applicants must submit transcripts of their undergraduate studies; and ▪ Applicants must submit an official document issued by the applicants’ alma mater describing the university’s grade system. If an applicant’s transcript does not include information on CGPA, marks or score percentile. Documents must be certified. iii. Letter of Recommendation from two (2) referees (Embassy or Ministry of Education of your home country); iv. Curriculum Vitae; and v. Research Proposal

8. Who can be referees for Letter of Recommendation? Recommendation letters should provide information about your performance in either an academic or professional setting. The referees should be people who can comment on your academic, skill, potential and suitability to receive MIS Scholarship (e.g., lecturer, supervisor or immediate superior, etc. They should not be a relative or close friend.

9. How many universities can I apply for? Applicants may apply not more than 3 Malaysian Universities / Higher Learning Institutions as listed in the application system.

10. What is benefit under MIS? i. This scholarship is limited to tuition fees and monthly living allowance of RM 1,500.00 per month. ii. Successful applicants are expected to independently arrange their travel to Malaysia (non-financial provisions). Travel expenses will not be provided by the Government of Malaysia. iii. All applicants are highly advised to check the expected living expenses in Malaysia.
