The Buffalo Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest will soon be advertising to fill a permanent full time Customer Service Representative. There may be government quarters or housing available.

The Position

This position is located at the Blackrock Ranger Station.

The position serves as an Customer Service Representative, greeting visitors, answering telephones, providing routine information, responding to routine inquires from a wide range of customers, and supporting the overall operations of a service unit.

Applies and follows accepted practices to perform non-standard research assignments involving special topics. Searches a variety of sources to obtain materials that support program activities. Assembles and summarizes the data, background information, and other materials into report or presentation formats.

Reads and keeps apprised of organizational and Agency-wide directives and procedures in order to be aware of changes and new requirements affecting the work of the organization. Such procedures concern preparation and processing of correspondence, reports, and forms; hard-copy and electronic filing; mail procedures; preparation of travel vouchers; and, security procedures.

Provides answers to a wide variety of inquiries. Provides explanations of office functions, describing specific requirements, providing basic instructions, or a similar degree of detail. Performs data entry typing tasks as needed. Uses word processing software and printing equipment to create, edit, and print a variety of documents.

Greets visitors and answers the telephone. Provides routine information and answers many types of inquiries on all research and/or forest activities such as the whereabouts of key personnel and directions to facilities. Refers difficult, technical, or special questions to the appropriate staffs.

Performs as Collection Officer, responsible for fee collections, tracking and accounting, and operations handling for the sell of such items as National Forest Maps, Timber forest products, and Grand Teton Association merchandise.

The Bridger-Teton National Forest

At 3,400,000 acres, the B-T is the second largest National Forest in the outside Alaska. It lies in Western , adjoining Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining area of undeveloped land in the 48 conterminous United States. It is noted for its unusual scenery and natural features, large and diverse wildlife populations, and habitat for threatened and endangered species.

The Forest contains the headwaters of 4 major river basins: the Yellowstone (Missouri/Mississippi Basin); Snake (Columbia); Green (Colorado); and the Bear River (Great Basin). Seven major mountain ranges are found within the Forest Boundaries. These mountain ranges are part of the northern Rocky Mountains and include part of the striking Teton Range and Wind River Mountains.

The Forest borders Jackson Hole, famous in the history of early explorers and fur traders, and winter home of the well-known Jackson herd.

The Forest, with its Supervisor's Office in Jackson, is composed of the Jackson, Buffalo, Pinedale, Big Piney, Greys River and Kemmerer Ranger Districts.

Duty Station Specifics

The Buffalo Ranger District is managed out of the Blackrock Ranger Station, 40 miles North of Jackson, Wyoming, and 8 miles east of Moran and the South Gate to Grand Teton National Park. The District manages approximately 750,000 acres of National Forest System lands, 585,486 acres of which are within the Teton Wilderness. The area is extremely beautiful with the Teton Range in full view from most areas of the District. There is an abundance of wildlife such as , elk, , , black bear, and trumpeter swan, which adds to the beauty and grandeur.

The Blackrock Ranger Station is comprised of the Ranger District office and the Forest Service Compound on which the District's operations are centered. Housing in the Buffalo Valley is sparse and is in the $400,000 range and up for a ½ acre 3 bedroom dwelling. There may be government housing available with this position, located within walking distance of the office.

There are two towns close to Blackrock, Jackson, and Dubois, each approximately 40 miles away. Jackson, with a population of approximately 6,000, is a full service community with shopping, hospital, clinic, movie theaters, and airport. Dubois is much smaller than Jackson, with a population of 2,000, and is more typical of a Wyoming ranching community. The nearest major city is Idaho Falls, (2 hour drive) with a population of 150,000. Moran is served by the Teton County School District; there is an excellent elementary school in Moran with K thru 5th grades. Grades 6 thru 12 are bused approximately 40 miles to Jackson, WY.

About the Community

The alpine climate results in four distinct seasons. Snowfall ranges from 88 to 400 inches per year depending on location. Annual rain precipitation averages 15.2 inches.

Blackrock Ranger Station is located approximately 8 miles east of Moran, WY. Moran is a small town with a post office, two gas stations, and several full service resorts in the immediate area.

St. John's Hospital provides good health care services in the Jackson Hole area. Comprehensive care includes 24-hour emergency services, general surgery, professional home care, an outpatient Surgical- Center, sports medicine, wellness programs, and the St. John's Living Center long-term care facility.

Transportation into and out of Jackson is available via air service and auto. Three carriers provide year around air service. During the summer months and the ski season, Jackson receives additional service. Car rentals and taxi service are available at several locations around town including the airport. Public and private bus service is provided between the airport, Jackson, and Teton Village.
