June 3, 2011 11-018 FAMOUS BOLLYWOOD ACTRESS BIPASHA BASU TO VISIT BRAMPTON WEEKEND OF JUNE 17 – 19 IFFA Buzz Brampton brings together major entertainment including RDB featuring Nindy Kaur, Culture Shock, and Parichay BRAMPTON, ON: The announcement was made at the Rose Theatre Brampton this morning that the former Ford Supermodel of the World, Bipasha Basu will be participating in a special Walk of Fame ceremony on Friday June 17. The actress will also be featured on a float in Brampton‟s Flower City parade on June 18 as part of the City‟s celebration of the upcoming International Indian Film Academy Awards. The awards are taking place in Toronto on June 25. “This is a „once-in-a-lifetime‟ weekend in our community,” says Mayor Susan Fennell. “We have never hosted a full weekend of activities that solely promotes the best of South Asian entertainment and culture. There will be something for everyone to enjoy in downtown Brampton on that weekend.” Bipasha Basu made her film debut in Abbas Mustan‟s Ajnabee, with Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Kareena Kapoor, and also won an award for her performance. In 2002, she starred in Vikram Bhatt‟s thriller Raaz, which was a big commercial success and surfaced as the biggest hit of that year. For her performance in the film, she received her first Best Actress nomination. She appeared as Sonia Khanna in the 2003 hit movie Jism alongside John Abraham. The movie earned her the Best Villian Award nomination. The IIFA Buzz Brampton Weekend Artistic Directors, Vishal Arora and Jay Bhavsar have programmed over 100 IIFA Buzz stage performances including IIFA Buzz Brampton Dance Pack, choreographed by Sohni & Shai of Academy of Crea8tive Arts. On Friday evening, Downtown Brampton will feature the rich colours and fragrances of South Asian culture, food, music and entertainment. Beginning at 7:00 pm at Gage Park and 8:00 pm at Garden Square, there will be dance and musical performances, as well as a fashion show by South Asian designer Dinesh Ramsey who is known for his diva style in the Indian film industry. Saturday morning is the official opening of the Farmers‟ Market from 7 am to 1 pm. The Flower City Parade, which begins at 2 pm, features a South Asian theme. A Mumbai Bazaar will be selling food and other goods from 9 am to 9 pm. In addition to an attached schedule of events, a complete list can be found at www.brampton.ca. Music and Dance Several well-known musical acts will also be presenting free outdoor concerts throughout the weekend. Popular musical act RDB featuring Nindy Kaur has been named brand ambassadors for the weekend events. They are also scheduled to perform on Saturday afternoon. In addition, the group Culture Shock and singer Parichay will also perform on one of three stages set up in the downtown on Saturday.
