SHRI MULLAPPALLY RAMACHANDRAN: SHRI PRATHAP SIMHA: Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government proposes to restructure the programmes of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and if so; the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and (b) the details of Nehru Yuva Kendras functioning in the country, State-wise? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL) (a) No Madam. At present, Government has no proposal under consideration to restructure the programmes of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS). NYKS undertakes programmes to develop the personality and leadership qualities of the youth and to engage them in nation-building activities. The areas of focus of the programmes of NYKs include literacy and education, health and family welfare, sanitation and cleanliness, environment conservation, awareness on social issues, women empowerment, rural development, skill development and self-employment, entrepreneurship development, civic education, disaster relief and rehabilitation, etc. Broadly, NYKS through its programmes has been able to achieve the objectives. The youth associated with NYKS are not only socially aware and motivated but are also inclined toward social development work through voluntary efforts. (b) At present, there is a Kendra of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) functioning in 623 districts of the country. Pakistan is yet to accord MFN status to India. During the 7 th round of talks on Commercial and Economic Cooperation between Commerce Secretaries of India and Pakistan held in Islamabad on September 20- 21, 2012 it was agreed, inter-alia that Pakistan would transition fully to MFN (non- discriminatory) status for India by December, 2012. Pakistan, however, did not adhere to the timelines.
