IN THE NEWS

Tribute to tragic crash victim The family of a woman killed in a road traffic collision in Little Sutton last month have paid tribute. Helene Dickinson, age 34, of , was involved in a head on collision on the notorious A550 Welsh Road, which sadly resulted in her tragic death. She was the daughter of Sue and Barry, big sister to Caroline and girlfriend to Ian and will be greatly missed. Helene was looking forward to becoming an Aunty and was a keen animal lover. Her pet tortoise Ralph and her cat, Cora, with whom she shared her apartment, will be cared for by her friends.

School singathon Little Sutton CE Primary pupils and staff are attempting their first ever ‘Singathon’ – non-stop singing all afternoon on Thursday 1st March. This is to celebrate National Sing Up Day which takes place the same week, and to showcase the great singing that goes on in the school.

Library is well red! Ellesmere Port’s library is to glow red for a month to highlight cardiovascular disease as part of the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Red for Heart campaign which takes places during National Heart Month. During March the library will be floodlit red at dusk for a month to bring home to local residents and visitors to the town that National Heart Month is the ideal time to think about your own heart health. The national campaign Red for Heart will also raise vital funds for the BHF to help beat the nation’s biggest killer. Councillor Angela Claydon, Mayor of Ellesmere Port, joined local family the Palins, who have two children with a genetic heart disease, to mark the occasion as the lights were switched on for the first time. Cllr Claydon said: “Heart disease is a very important issue which affects a great number of people and I am proud and delighted to be able to take part in such a worthwhile event. “Heart disease remains this country’s biggest killer and can affect anyone but there are things that we can do in our everyday lives to minimise risk and raise awareness in others too. “Ellesmere Port is proud to be part of the BHF’s campaign this year - we are already a Heart Town and are working very hard to promote heart health to our residents. The library is a central focal point within the town and I am sure the lighting will look fantastic.” 6 Tel 01244 350398 www.southwirral.com Keep it Local March 2012 7

Q. I have a gift voucher for a facial with you and I was wondering if I should use it before I go on my skiing holiday next week or wait until I get back. When would I get the most benefit from it? A. If you can only have one facial I would always recommend having it on the return from your holiday. In fact, I am not a big advocate of doing facials too close to a holiday, particularly one that will involve your skin being exposed to a great deal of sunlight such as skiing or beach holidays. This is because most facials include exfoliating steps to thoroughly remove dead skin cells which gives a lovely bright, fresh look to the skin, but removes a layer of protection. Keep your dead skin cells in place for another week, protect your skin further with a good quality high protection sunscreen and enjoy the benefits of your facial at the end of your holiday.
