WE Church 1

Water’s Edge House Church April 26

Call to Worship:

As you make the sign of the cross say:

We begin worship in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Then give each other a rock fist and say, “Jesus is the rock!”

Someone read all of Psalm 121 before engaging in the opening worship song.

Opening Video and Singing Join Pastor Anthony as he leads you in the singing of Psalm 121.

Confession Someone read the following: Pastor Mark loves the movie Home Alone. He laughs every time the bad guys slip and fall.

Opening Question: Share a time when you slipped and fell or saw someone else slip and fall. How did it feel? How do you think the other people felt?

Someone read the following: Maybe some stories about falling are humorous but the majority of stories about slipping and falling are sad and involve pain.

We are going to use the Psalm 121 for our confession time today. Each set of verses will shape our confession. If you are with other people discuss each section together. If you are alone, you are encouraged to call a friend or write down your responses.

Read the following verse followed by the confession time.

Verses 1-2: I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

WE House Church 2

Confession: • Where are you not looking to God or trusting in God for help? • What is it that you are trusting in or looking to for help besides God?

Verses 3-6 He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

Confession: • Where do you feel like God is sleeping in your life right now? • How is that causing you to take control of your life in unhealthy ways? • How is your attempt at control actually causing you to slip in your walk with God?

Forgiveness Someone read the following:

Father, we thank you that you do not slumber or sleep. We thank you that you are not surprised when we don’t trust you and try to take control of our lives. We ask for your forgiveness when we sin by not trusting you and by taking our lives into our own hands. We ask for your forgiveness for all of our sins.

We thank you that you say in 1 John 1:8–9:

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So, as we confess our sins to you, we thank you that you forgive us of all of our sins. May we live with confidence knowing you love and forgive us because of Jesus’ perfect life, death and resurrection.

Everyone say together: Our sins our forgiven by what Jesus has done for us on the cross. We are unified with God and with one another through Jesus.

Then go around and tell each other: You are loved and forgiven by Jesus!

If you are worshiping by yourself today write this good news on a sticky note and place it somewhere you will see it as a reminder to yourself this week.

Close by going back to Psalm 121 and read verses 7-8 together as an encouragement and a promise of what God has in store for you this week and always. WE House Church 3

Read together: Verses 7-8 The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

The Lord’s Prayer As God’s forgiven people pray the prayer that our Lord, Jesus, taught us to pray.

Our Father in heaven, holy be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power and glory. Forever and ever. Amen.

Giving God is so generous! God has given us everything that we have. Our health, our friends and family, our jobs and the resources to take care of those who are in need. Take a moment to thank God for all that you have (Ask each person to share one way God has provided for them this week).

God doesn’t want just 10% of what we have. He wants all of it! He says, “Watch me take care of you in amazing ways as you live lives of generosity!” As a group take a moment to pray for generosity and provision at Water’s Edge in this season.

Teaching Time This Week’s Text:

• Ephesians 4:17–32

You can watch this week’s sermon right here.

Discussion Questions:

• Where do you struggle with the old way of life? What does living into the new life you have through Jesus look like in this season? • The pandemic has gifted us the opportunity to reset the course of our lives from the old life to the new life. How do you want to walk into your new life post pandemic? At work, at school, with your schedule, with your hobbies, in your relationships, and even your money…? • What are the lies you are believing that make you think the old life is better?

Prayer After the teaching and discussion, conclude your time together in prayer. Take a moment to be still before God and listen to see if he puts anything on your heart. If he does share it with your group. Then spend some time praying for the following:

• For the Holy Spirit to give you the desire and strength to walk into the new life you have in Jesus • For the doctors and scientists who are working for a vaccine for COVID-19 • For the eradication of COVID-19 and healing for those who are sick • For the officials who are discerning the role out procedures for our country • For followers of Jesus to be a presence of peace and in our city • For financial provision for our church and community • For any needs in your household and community

Sending When you are done praying say the following together:

May our worship continue as we live as witnesses of our risen Savior!
