James O' Barr the Crow James o' barr the crow Continue American graphic artist and comic James O'Barr in April 2016 Born (1960-01-01) January 1, 1960 (age 60)Detroit, Michigan, USA NationalityAmericarea (s)Writer, ArtistNotable works crowChildren1 James O'Barr (born January 1, 1960) is an American comic book artist, writer and graphic artist, best known as the creator of the Comic Book series Raven. The early life of O'Barr, an orphan, was brought up in the system of adoptive parents. Career in 1978, O'Barr enlisted in the Marine Corps. While in Germany, he illustrated combat aids for the military. Before entering the Marines, O'Barra's fiancee, Beverly, was killed by a drunk driver. Living in Berlin in 1981, O'Barr began working on his comic book The Crow as a means of dealing with his personal tragedy. O'Barr was inspired by a Detroit newspaper in connection with the $20 murder of a young couple in an engagement ring. In the film The Crow the main character Eric and his fiancee Shelley killed by a gang of criminals. Eric returns from the dead, guided by a supernatural crow to hunt his killers. After retiring from the Marine Corps, O'Barr continued his painting and illustration, as well as doing various odd jobs, including working in a Detroit body shop. Crow sat on the shelf for seven years, but finally he found a publisher with Gary Reed caliber Press. The first miniseries was published in 1989. Since then, The Crow has sold more than 750,000 copies worldwide. O'Barr's hope that his project would lead to a personal catharsis was not justified. During an interview in 1994, he said, I drew every page, it made me more self-destructive, if anything... There is pure anger on every page. In the 1990s, O'Barr was associated with the experimental metal band Trust Obey, which was briefly signed to Trent Reznor's Nothing label. (quote needed) Trust Obey released the album Fear and Bullets: Music to Accompany The Crow in 1993. The album was packed with a special edition of Crowe's graphic novel. Crow was adapted into a successful film of the same name in 1994, which was marred by the tragic death of its star, Brandon Lee, during filming. The film was a continuation of three sequels and a television series. After the success of The Crow, O'Barr began planning a post-apocalyptic graphic novel called Gothic. The series was based on The Wizard of Oz and featured Johnny from his story Frame 137 as the main character. In January 2013, Motionworks Entertainment released the Western comic O'Barre Sundown, which served as their debut comic book for the iPhone and iPad. He also announced his work on a comic book about the Korean War, focused on the efforts of three U.S. Marine Corps crews to hold on to Fox Hill during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, with a different artist drawing each Gun. In 2013, O'Barr was appointed consultant on a possible reboot The Crowe film franchise. Although he had previously opposed the project, O'Barr revealed his involvement in the reboot of The Crow in October 2014. He discussed the approach to adaptation and the efforts being made to respect the original film. Later, in November 2014, O'Barr appeared on Wizard World Tulsa Comic Con and stated that he had written the screenplay with screenwriter Cliff Dorfman. The personal lives of James O'Barr and Chiara Bautista at Lucca Comics and Games 2018 According to the mid-2000s, O'Barr lives in Dallas with his daughter. 14 Creating Lara Croft The meaning of the comic books for the Tomb Raider franchise Josefa Much Since the creation of Lara Croft in 1996, it seems impossible to imagine the game industry without her. Her pop-cultural impact certainly affected the gaming industry, but the expansion of her character into a whole franchise has also immortalized her through action figures, cosplay, music videos, and appearances in many other media. If you take a closer look at the franchise, you will find a number of different videogames for different gaming platforms as well as three action films, six novels, and many comic books. Shortly after the release of the very firstTomb Raider game in 1996, the comic book pub- lisher Top Cow released a crossover with their own heroine Sara Pezzini aka Witchblade and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider/ Witchblade (Turner 1997, 1998). The Witchblade comic books were one of Top Cow’s most prominent series. As a result, something very interesting happened: Lara Croft was introduced into a new universe beyond her own games, and thus into a new storyworld. She became part of the Top Cow universe as both franchises collided. Two years later, the Tomb Raider received her own stand- alone comic book series. It not only focused on her adventures, but also on her personal thoughts and approach, introducing different characters and friends of hers. Later on, this would be used to create new crossovers with different Top Cow characters (e.g., Dark Crossing [Holland and Turner 2000a, 2000b]; Endgame [Rieber and Green 2003a, 2003b, 2003c; Silvestri and Tan 2003; Turner 2002c]; the Magdalena crossover [Bonny and Basaldua 2004a, 2004b, 2004c]; the Fathom/ Witchblade/ Tomb Raider crossover [Turner 2000, 2002a, 2002b]).
