  • Please Click Here to Read RJ Mitte's Biography
Best known for his portrayal of Walter “Flynn” White Jr for five riveting seasons of AMC’s Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning dramatic thriller “Breaking Bad”, RJ Mitte is an actor, advocate and philanthropist who has carved out his niche in Hollywood by breaking down stereotypes and changing people’s mindsets with his easy going demeanor and positive outlook on life. During its final season, the “Breaking Bad” premiere drew approximately 5.9 million viewers, a number that nearly doubled to 10.3 million by the season’s final episode. As Walt Jr., referred to by fans as “The Breakfast King,” Mitte acted as the Cerebral Palsy-afflicted son of Walter (Bryan Cranston) and Skyler (Anna Gunn). Walter Jr.’s Cerebral Palsy on the show was embellished, meaning RJ had to learn how to walk on crutches and slur his speech to create a more dramatic version of his own disability. At the young age of three, Louisiana native Mitte was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, though that has never deterred his drive to succeed in television and film. After moving to Los Angeles due to his sister’s chance encounter with a casting director, Mitte landed roles in various shows such as SHOWTIME’s “Weeds,” NBC’s “Vegas,” CW’s “Everybody Hates Chris” and co-starred on ABC Family’s primetime hit show “Switched at Birth,” until being cast in his life-changing role on “Breaking Bad.” Concluding “Breaking Bad” Mitte, reemerged on the big screen in DIXIELAND, in his first non-handicapped leading role. Following this, he starred in a multitude of films such as: THE RECALL, opposite Wesley Snipes; TIEMPO COMPARTIDO (Official 2018 Selection World Cinema Dramatic Competition at Sundance); RIVER RUNS RED, in 2018, alongside John Cusack and George Lopez; and he also guest starred on Starz’ coming of age television thriller “Now Apocalypse,” which premiered in early 2019.

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is; what are you doing for others?" -MLK OUR VISION For over a decade, MDC has helped establish rewarding relationships between thousands of individuals, businesses and charities who care deeply about the well-being of others and the community. Through our work (video production, event planning & consulting) we want to share stories that matter, organize events that build bridges, highlight extraordinary individuals, create simple and effective ways of giving back, and act as professional matchmakers. Our mission has always been to connect the people who want to help with the people who need help the most. From the start, we've witnessed heartbreaking scenarios where trauma and hardship causes a child or family to feel isolated and hopeless. Despite what we're taught, time is more precious than gold and we strive to make every day, hour and minute count. The world does not stop when tragedy strikes; but good people can and do. We enlist the help of caregivers across every business sector around the globe and rely on them to help us create special moments in time that bring hope and joy to those suffering through hardship. We've created an Active Response Team; an unofficial team of do-gooders who are willing to step up to the plate when needed. And just like the word "team" signifies, together everyone achieves more. MDC works by cause, not by client -- and in doing so, it allows us to foster collaboration and look after the interests of all involved. The impact we make by working together is more powerful and far-reaching than most individuals can achieve on their own.

“My” Hero or Epic Fail? Torchwood as Transnational Telefantasy Melissa Beattie1 Recibido: 2016-09-19 Aprobado por pares: 2017-02-17 Enviado a pares: 2016-09-19 Aceptado: 2017-03-23 DOI: 10.5294/pacla.2017.20.3.7 Para citar este artículo / to reference this article / para citar este artigo Beattie, M. (2017). “My” hero or epic fail? Torchwood as transnational telefantasy. Palabra Clave, 20(3), 722-762. DOI: 10.5294/pacla.2017.20.3.7 Abstract Telefantasy series Torchwood (2006–2011, multiple production partners) was industrially and paratextually positioned as being Welsh, despite its frequent status as an international co-production. When, for series 4 (sub- titled Miracle Day, much as the miniseries produced as series 3 was subti- tled Children of Earth), the production (and diegesis) moved primarily to the United States as a co-production between BBC Worldwide and Amer- ican premium cable broadcaster Starz, fan response was negative from the announcement, with the series being termed Americanised in popular and academic discourse. This study, drawn from my doctoral research, which interrogates all of these assumptions via textual, industrial/contextual and audience analysis focusing upon ideological, aesthetic and interpretations of national identity representation, focuses upon the interactions between fan cultural capital and national cultural capital and how those interactions impact others of the myriad of reasons why the (re)glocalisation failed. It finds that, in part due to the competing public service and commercial ide- ologies of the BBC, Torchwood was a glocalised text from the beginning, de- spite its positioning as Welsh, which then became glocalised again in series 4.

  • Tales from the Crypt
Ah, HBO. Here in the year 2014, those three little initials are shorthand for quality, original programming; small screen event television almost certain to be immeasurably superior to the megabucks offerings of your local multiplex. The network also boasts a rich tradition of brining monsters into our living rooms, with the unsavoury actions of Livia Soprano, Gyp Rosetti, Cy Tolliver and Joffrey Baratheon horrifying viewers of all walks of life. Way back in the late 1980s, however, HBO introduced us to an altogether different kind of miscreant; a wisecracking living corpse, a teller of tall tales that focussed on vampires, zombies and the evil that men do. Jackanory it most certainly wasn’t – we’re referring, of course, to the legendary Tales from the Crypt. In the 80s, TV anthology horror was as much a fixture as leg warmers, John Hughes movies and the musical stylings of Duran Duran. Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone had enjoyed a redux, James Coburn invited us to his Darkroom, a certain pizza-faced dream demon hosted Freddy’s Nightmares, and genre enthusiasts were gripped by the Ray Bradbury Theater. Perhaps the most prosperous purveyor of small screen shivers was producer Richard Rubinstein, who enjoyed phenomenal success with Tales from the Darkside (the brainchild of none other than George Romero, director of the beloved portmanteau picture Creepshow) and Monsters. Bright and breezy 30-minute creature features with their tongue frequently placed firmly in their cheek, these shows were heavily influenced by the infamous EC horror comics of the 1950s, with a perverse sense of morality at the dark heart of the stories.
