Photos by Kate Anslinger

From vintage purses to VHS tapes, the sidewalks in Winthrop were brimming with second-hand steals last Saturday, June 8. The 11th annual town-wide yard sale included more than 75 different stops on the map, making it the largest annual yard sale to date. Hosted by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, the annual sale was still going strong well into the afternoon, thanks to the perfect weather.

Robert Paul Properties isn’t just about real estate, it’s about investing in the community

The team at Robert Paul Properties (RPP) is proving that there is more to real estate than hefty transactions and competitive sales. Originally founded as a luxury company taking on clientele that had million-dollar waterfront homes, RPP expanded its horizons at the direction of the Winthrop founding member, Stephen Hines. Loyal to his roots, Hines recognized Winthrop as the gem that it is. Armed with the fact that the tight- knit community in close proximity to Boston, was growing by leaps and bounds every year, with a 20% average home value appreciation, Hines presented the idea of opening an office that would cater to current and future homebuyers in Winthrop. His history with the community paired with his real estate expertise, gave Hines a platform to stand on, however; he has made it clear that it’s not just about real estate, it’s about investing in the community, the clients, and the process. It didn’t take Hines long to find the perfect partner to help him manage the Winthrop office. Holding on tight to the notion that RPP would both serve the residents and give back to the community, LeighAnn Eruzione was an obvious choice. With five years of sales under her belt, a dedication to local non-profit organizations, and roots that run deep, Eruzione completed the partnership. From the start, RPP’s immersion in the town was one that had an obvious give-back mentality, as they set up their offices in the brand-new Inc.Ubate Co- working space, run by town councilor-at-large Michael Lucerto. From that point on, RPP has been giving back to that town that has given so much to both Hines and Eruzione. As part of the RP Care program, the Winthrop office contributes a portion of sales into a fund that benefits CASA, Winthrop Charities, and the I Love Winthrop Festival. An annual beach cleanup day and a scholarship that will benefit high school seniors has also been set in motion.

When it comes to the real estate market, there are a lot of misconceptions. From first time home buyers moving in from the city to long-term residents who want to downsize, Hines and Eruzione are standing out and proving that community is key.

OUR Opinions

ALI STROKER IS AN Forum INSPIRATION FOR ALL OF US

At the age of two, Ali Stroker was in a car accident that re- sulted in a spinal cord injury that paralyzed her from the chest down, leaving her unable to walk and confining her to a wheel- chair for the rest of her life. However, at the age of seven, Stroker saw her first Broadway show and it was at that moment that she says she decided to become an actress. The rest, as the saying goes, is history. Ali’s desire to perform led her to the stage and, with the support of her family, peers, and teachers, she discovered her powerful singing voice and ap- peared in her high school productions. She won a role in the hit TV show Glee and eventually made her way to Broadway, where she earned a prominent role in the revival of Oklahoma!. This past Sunday night at the Tony Awards show, Stroker performed the song of her character (Ado Annie), I Cain’t Say No -- and then she received the Tony for Featured Actress in a Musical. If a fictional movie had been made on the premise of Ali Stro- ker’s life, no doubt it would be described as powerful and mov- ing, but just a nice fantasy. But Ali Stroker’s life is real, and her success sends a powerful message to all of us that we can achieve our dreams, regardless of the adversity we may face. Her success also has changed the perception of what is possible in the face of physical limitations. So whenever we’re feeling sorry for ourselves, think of Ali Stroker. She has not attained her dream because of luck, but because she believed in herself -- and that’s the most powerful belief any of us can have.

The Winthrop High tennis team players were awarded for a season of hard work and dedication last Wednesday evening, June 5, during a banquet at the PSA hall. “Starting from the freshmen players to the senior players, you guys are all so talented,” said Coach Marie Finn, as she addressed the players. “I’m truly amazed by how much you’ve all improved in this short season.” After presenting team awards, Finn and Assistant Coach Andrea Martucci handed out class gifts. Freshmen were given jackets, sophomores received bandanas, juniors received racket cases, and seniors were gifted engraved key chains.
