Summer 2021 Weekly Specialties 3D Printing & Design Grades 3 – 8: Week 10 Working collaboratively, campers will design intricate and custom 3D creations. In addition to STEAM skills, this specialty builds teamwork, problem solving, and critical thinking—essential tools for your child’s future. Watch as the camper’s designs go from their minds to their hands! Animal Invasion Grades K – 2: Week 7 Grades 3 – 8: Week 4 Animal invasion is a specialty for all animal lovers! Your child will experience and interact with all kinds of amazing creatures including Reptiles, Amphibians, Mammals, Birds, Insects and more! Don’t miss out on all the fun, games and most importantly the animals! Art Explorers Grades 3 - 8: Weeks 1 & 10 Art is all about creativity and turning your thoughts and experiences into something tangible. In this specialty, we will explore different mediums and create beautiful works of art. Students will be encouraged to dive into their own interests and embrace their style. We will also learn about different artists and how they have influenced art. This is a wonderful class that will foster self-expression as well as art education. Art Lab Grades K – 2: Weeks 2, 4, & 6 Art exploration and experimentation is so important for our campers. In this specialty we will be playing with different mediums such as paint, upcycled materials, drawing, and mixed media. This specialty, while playful and exploratory will promote motor skills and concentration. We will be learning new techniques each week and putting them into action! Bugs & Creepy Crawlies Grades K -2: Week 8 Come join the creepiest, crawliest, slimiest specialty in town! With tons of bugs, tarantulas, scorpions, worms and more, you’re sure to have goose bumps by the time we leave. Campers will have hands on experiences with some of the world’s wildest bugs while also learning to identify native bugs around them. Don’t miss out on all the fun! Chess Grades K – 2: Week 6 Grades 3 – 8: Week 7 The old saying goes, “Chess is the game of Kings (and Queens)” and in this camp we’ll find out why. Campers will learn to live by the qualities of a noble king or queen: Perseverance, Nobility, Kindness, Benevolence, responsibility, problem solving, confidence, sportsmanship, planning, patience, social skills, critical thinking, imagination, and more. We’ll start at the beginning and discover all the different characters (pieces) of chess and background information about who they are and where they come from. Then it’s onto how they move on the board and the rest of the dynamic rules of this ancient game of kings. Chess isn’t just a game; it’s a way of life! Crazy Chem Grades K – 2: Week 2 Shake up a flask of fun in the lab as a junior chemist! Campers learn to swirl, pour and mix like a scientist! Chill down and heat up the atomic label as you change liquid to solid and back again. Learn how to handle laboratory tools, build and break molecules, and pick up some tricks on chemical changes with solids, liquids, and gases. Hop on board the chemistry express this summer for a high-speed science experience! Coding Wizards Grades 3 – 8: Week 3 Create your own animations, programs, and games with MIT’s Scratch, Pytho, Box Island, and more! Computer programming helps with brain development, math skills, logic, and tons of fun! Critter Squad: Indoor Safari Grades K – 2: Week 5 Let your child go “Zoo Wild” with this completely hands-on experience unlike any others! Campers will explore animals and reptiles of all shapes, size and colors as we bring our indoor safari to the palms of their hands. Dance Grades K – 2: Week 1 Grades 3 – 8: Week 2 Dance your heart out with us while we learn basic movement, creativity, choreography and performance skills. Stretch, play fun dance games and learn routines that incorporate new moves, the basic skills of musicality and creativity. Have a blast dancing to upbeat music with a focus on hip hop and jazz that will include skills such as turns, jumps, kicks and more! Don’t forget the amazing final performance at the end of the week! Dinosaurs (Jurassic DinoWorld) Grades K – 2: Week 4 Learn all about Dinosaurs in this fun, hands-on class! Explore the triassic, Jurassic, and cretaceous eras through all sorts of project-based activities: Dino Digs, fossil hunts, and ‘Dino of the Day’ activities! Drone Flight Academy Grades 3 – 8: Week 8 Take you knowledge of drones and robots to the stratosphere! Campers will challenge each other by learning how to code and program their drones and robots. Get ready for liftoff! EUREKA! Inventors Grades K –2: Week 9 Campers will spend their week overcoming a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, and tips from famous inventors like Thomas Edison, Leonardo Da Vinci and Rube Goldberg. They will use a little bit of ingenuity to create catapults, forts, and construct working light sticks to take home. Fashion and Character Illustration Grades 3 – 8: Week 5 Join us for Fashion and Character Illustration with Chrystal! Chrystal will share her passion for fashion and illustration though exciting projects for campers who are eager to learn about fashion. Fashion Accessories – Jewelry Grades 3 -8: Week 9 Do you find jewelry and accessories fascinating and always think “I could make that!” Well in this specialty you can! We will look at fashion, from classic style to on-trend, the limits are endless. Campers will learn some jewelry making techniques, create wearable works of arts, and have so much fun in the process! This specialty helps students turn their ideas into tangible creations with wonderful projects designed to invigorate their imaginations! Hogwarts Academy Grades 3 -8: Week 9 Perfect your Wizardry skills in this interactive, creative, spell-binding specialty! Find out which house you belong to and learn how to make potions, use your wand, identify creatures, and more! Witches and wizards of all ages will graduate the Academy with supplies and skills to use their magic for good. LEGO Pokémon Engineering Grades K – 2: Week 3 Join Ash and Pikachu as you build, capture, train, and explore the vast world of Pokémon with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts. Design your own Poké Balls, explore the Kanto region, and fly with Charzard. Explore engineering through the fun world of Pokémon with the guidance of a Play-Well instructor. LEGO Mine, Craft, Build: Survival Game Grades K – 2: Week 8 Grades 3 – 8: Week 6 Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO® bricks! Resourcefulness, creativity, and cooperation come together in this unique building adventure game; roll the dice to mine for resources, craft tools, and watch out for Creepers! This ultimate LEGO Minecraft experience is an original game designed by Play-Well instructors, using gameplay elements and characters inspired by the popular Minecraft video game. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO® materials. LEGO Animal Architects Grades K – 2: Week 10 Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts as we design and build leaping dolphins, buzzing beehives, and towering giraffes. Play, create, and learn in a world inspired by the animal kingdom. Design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas. Kawaii Art and Sculpture Grades K – 2: Week 8 Grades 3 – 8: Week 3 The word “Kawaii” means “cute” in Japanese, this form of art has a huge following worldwide. This summer campers will learn how to draw kawaii characters and create small sculptures out of clay. Join us for this extremely cute and explorative specialty! Magic Academy Grades K – 2: Weeks 2 & 9 Ever wonder how a Magician does magic trick? This class unlocks some of the secrets to the techniques of magic. Campers will gain skills in acting, comedy, and memorization that are essential to a magician’s performance. They will use a variety of normal household items such as cards, coins, cups & balls, rope, and learn cool simple tricks! Marine Biology Grades 3 – 8: Week 3 Explore the diversity of ocean life from organism in hot deep-sea vents, to tropical fish, to the astonishing varieties of arctic marine life! Observe dissections of a lamprey eel, a crayfish, and even a shark! Write squid ink, grow Sea Monkeys, and learn about the largest environment on the planet! Martial Arts: Focused Snake Grades K-2: Weeks 1 & 5 The snake is one of the most feared creatures in nature. However, while stories of the snake’s sneaky ability to slither and slide around with incredible precision, the snake is known for being focused. In order to earn your green headband, you must learn to grow by focusing, and making thoughtful, tactful decisions before acting. Young Ninjas is a high-energy program introducing children to fundamental martial arts elements, like blocks, kicks, strikes, and the all-important KI-YAH! Through skill training, fun games, creative challenges, and Pad work on foam targets, children develop self-confidence and learn to enjoy being physically active in a non- contact setting. KI-YAH! Martial Arts: Confident Eagle Grades K – 2: Weeks 3 & 7 Across cultures of all kinds, the eagle represents an unwavering spirit, who, above all, shows unbreakable confidence. To earn your purple headband, you must learn to embrace what makes you unique, and hold that with confidence, just like the eagle. Young Ninjas is a high- energy program introducing children to fundamental martial arts elements, like blocks, kicks, strikes, and the all-important KI-YAH!
