The third Earl of Burlington, designer of this Neoclassical, Palladian villa, drew inspiration from his Grand Tours in Italy. The Gardens underwent a £12m restoration project which has reinstated the original vistas and repaired the statues and garden buildings. During its long history, Chiswick House has also been used as an asylum and a fire station, and during World War II it was damaged when a V-2 rocket hit one of the twoLoadingwings. In 1966 the BeatlesBayused the gardens to shoot music videos. Filming Information Filming and photography is welcomed at Chiswick House and Gardens. To ensure there is no possibility of damage to the buildings or gardens, as well as to reduce any potential inconvenience to the public, production companies must present detailed plans before approval is granted. Filming inside Chiswick House is only allowed under certain circumstances. Chiswick House & Gardens Trust work in partnership with English Heritage to ensure the building and its contents are preserved for future generations. Unfortunately, this means that some requests will be declined. Please discuss your proposal with FilmFixer at the earliest opportunity. Before filming is agreed, Chiswick House & Gardens Trust will need some time to examine your proposal and decide if the protection offered in the risk assessment and method statement is sufficient. Filming in the gardens is much easier to arrange. We can issue filming agreements within one working day if the filming or photography is small scale, exterior only and does not affect the statues or structures within the gardens. The site offers a three-phase power supply and a number of options for unit bases and crew parking. Full technical details as well as floor plans, rates and other helpful information is available on request. Interior Locations The sumptuous interiors include three velvet rooms which feature Lord Burlington’s fine art collection and decorated ceilings. The Gallery is made up of three connecting rooms, linked by small, arched openings. The Upper Tribunal has a high domed roof. A spiral staircase leads to an atmospheric, octagonal brick cellar. All the interiors are perfect for a period production. Please note there are some circumstances in which items loaned to ChiswickLoadingHouse may not beBayfilmed or photographed – these will be identified by Chiswick House & Gardens Trust during the initial recce. The principal space is the Cherry Orchard - which is just off the public car park which can accommodate most unit sizes. The Walled Garden, next to it, can host overflow crew cars (trackway required). Cherry Orchard The Cherry Orchard has reinforced nylon matting laid over the grass so it can accommodate trailers. For extra-large units, or large numbers of crew cars, additional space can be made available on a private road or various courtyards. The Cricket Pavilion can be hired as a green room, (electricity, water, toilets, chairs and tables are available where required). Walled Garden Tech Parking Every effort will be made to locate technical vehicles as close to the camera positions as possible, whilst maintaining public access. Weight limits apply in these areas. The positions of all tech vehicles and vehicle movements must be agreed in advance. The Courtyard and Marquee Area are directly outside Courtyard the House and are central to the park. Duke’s Avenue can also be used for large units. Marquee Area Duke’s Avenue www.filmfixer.co.uk T: 020 3904 4545 E: [email protected].

The project is ambitious for a number of reasons – but in terms of this Business Plan, most importantly because it will provide a complete step change in the level of commercial activity onsite. Turnover will increase onsite fourfold to around £1m p.a. as a direct result of the project , and expenditure will increase by around a third. This Business Plan provides a detailed assessment of the forecast operational performance of Marble Hill House and Park under the project.

  • Best Wishes to All Friends for a Happy 2019!
BEST WISHES TO ALL FRIENDS FOR A HAPPY 2019! PARK WALK The next Friends event will be a walk on Sunday 3 March. Meet at the Café at 10am for a gentle explor- ation lasting about an hour and a half. Our December walk drew a friendly crowd, seen here slightly dazzled by the bright winter sun – do join us for to the next one! All welcome, just turn up. THE RETURN OF LOVEBOX AND CITADEL The CIC has agreed to the Lovebox and Citadel festivals returning to the same area of the park as 2018 on 12, 13 and 14 July. The Ealing Events announcement stated that several key aspects will be changed in the light of feed-back from residents, statutory authorities and other stakeholders. It refers to better management of pedestrian access to and from the park, improving parking arrangements and managing traffic. It promises other changes, details to come and a better consultation process with residents. Last year they brushed aside the fears of the local residents on the grounds they were highly experienced organisers, then afterwards made a series of abject apologies for the distress they created around the Park. If they are truly listening this year, the consultation meetings will be important. We will circulate the dates when we have them. 'KINGDOM OF THE ICE AGE' Animatronic woolly mammoths will be moving into the Park in the spring. The contractors will be setting up the exhibits from 27 March onwards and paying visitors will be admitted between 6 and 28 April. Everything will be off site by 7 May.

Occasionally, google earth or google map images are included to help the reader identify where the park is located. Similar documents are available for all London Boroughs. These were created as part of research into the impact of traffic noise in London’s parks. They should be read in conjunction with the main report and data analysis which are available at http://www.cprelondon.org.uk/resources/item/2390-noiseinparks. The key to the traffic noise maps is shown here to the right. Orange denotes noise of 55 decibels (dB). Louder noises are denoted by reds and blues with dark blue showing the loudest. CHISWICK HOUSE FRIENDS NEWSLETTER SPRING 2013 Charity No 289907 Patron: Lord Burlington . Spring - is it really here yet? With Spring comes a new season of events such as our Opera and Dog Show; and also a new website for the Friends - now an important part of the way in which we communicate with you our members. On www.chfriends.org.uk you will see that as well as all the familiar news and features you can buy opera tickets (at a discount), make small purchases and even pay subscriptions on line. A group of Trustees led by Louise Chapman has laboured hard to make our new website attractive and accessible. With this upgrade comes the realisation that we have not increased our subscription fees for almost ten years. An increase is now unavoidable and, we think, the new levels of £15 for a single membership and £25 for a double still represent excellent value. George Nissen Chiswick House and Gardens Trust News Artists support CH&G Trust The Me lon House project This year we have been privileged to have the support of locally-based artists Sir Peter Blake and Marthe Armitage. Sir Peter Blake whose work is represented in major collections throughout the world recalled his long association and affection for Chiswick House Gardens: “Chiswick House Gardens is a special place. I took our daughter Rose there so many times when she was a child”. This year the Chiswick House and Gardens Trust in partnership with the Chiswick House Friends will be restoring the historic Melon House behind the Conservatory.

  • Georgian Footsteps
FREE IN GEORGIAN FOOTSTEPS Explore the lanes and paths of 18th century Chiswick Chiswick Parish lies on low land, in a loop of the Thames. The river was an important transport route for people and goods. The ancient Bath Road - today’s High Road - ran east-west across common land in the north, where Chiswick & Acton parishes met. A settlement grew up there, known as Turnham Green, with fashionable houses and mansions, and inns, blacksmiths and farriers to serve travellers. Burlington Lane linked the two riverside villages, Chiswick Town in the east and Strand on the Green to the west. It followed a route along slightly rising ground, probably to stay clear of the risk of flooding from the river. The big estates were The Grove, whose garden by the river was protected by a wall, Sutton Court, the manor house with its own farm and parkland, and Chiswick House. Bath Road Burlington Lane Hogarth’s House Chiswick House The Thames Detail from John Rocque’s Map of London and Environs, surveyed 1741-45, colours added John Donowell’s view, published in the 1750s, shows Lord Burlington’s new villa. It was built after a wing of the 17th century house was destroyed by fire in 1725. You can see what survived of the old house through the trees. Travelling left from this picture the lane crosses the stream which was dammed to create Burlington’s lake in the 1720s, with his Cascade alongside, as shown in this companion print. At the inner gates in front of Walk beyond the right of this Chiswick House you are standing picture, across the grass towards on the old line of Burlington Lane.
