He was born in Portland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Carles, and attended Portland schools. Mr. Carles was a Navy vet· eran of. World War I and a staff setpant in the Army durinl World War U. He was a member of the Masou of South Portland. He bad been employed as a draft sman for Sikorsky Aircraft Co. in Cormectlcut. and was a bam radio operator. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Moaday at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, South Windham, with burial in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. He was superinten-. dent of the boiler department of the Westbrook concern for 30 years and then in the drafting department for a decade before retlrini from active work 1n January, 1924. He was a mem ber of the Thrjle-Quarter Centlll')' Club and took a· prominent part in the club's outing held at the !l;hnd a few years ago. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Port land Lodge, F. & A. M.: St. Albans Commandery, Knights Templar, and the Knights of Constantine, with oth· er branches of the order. While a resident of Westbrook, Mr. Carleton took a special interest In city affairs and served for a time aa a member of the Scl;lool Board.
