    Media Contact: Dan Segel NEWS (541) 752-5656 oregonallstarseries.com For Immediate Release Reser’s Oregon All-Star Series Announces 2016 North and South Coaches Corvallis, Oregon, June 9, 2016 – The coaches for the North and South teams have been selected for the Reser’s Oregon All-Star Series, set for June 18-19 at Goss Stadium on the campus of Oregon State. Alan Embree of Summit and Ryan Starwalt of Crescent Valley will lead the South team. Colin Griffin of Jesuit and Erich Harjo of Hood River will lead the North team. Embree recently coach the Storm to the 5A state championship over Hood River Valley, and was honored as the 5A Coach of the Year. Embree played for 10 different major-league teams from 1992-2009 as a left-handed relief specialist and was part of the Red Sox 2004 World Series championship club. He is also the pitching coach for the Bend Elks of the West Coast League during the summer. Starwalt played at Philomath High School and then coached at PHS before moving to Crescent Valley. He led the Raiders to the 2016 Mid-Willamette Conference championship and to the semifinals of the 5A state tournament, where they were eliminated by Summit. A Jesuit graduate who played baseball at Clackamas Community College and at Willamette University, Griffin led the Crusaders to the 2016 6A state title in his second year as their head coach, and was named the 6A Coach of the Year. He coached at Lakeridge for seven seasons before returning to JHS in 2014.

The three-game showcase series is set for June 24-25 at Oregon State University’s Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The North roster features #1-ranked Oregon State commit outfielder KevinWatson, Jr of Beaverton High School and University of Oregon commit Kolby Somers of Century High School. The South roster includes four seniors from this year’s 5A state champion, Churchill. The Lancers are the most represented program in the Oregon All-Star Series. The announcement was made by 6A Coordinator Jake Anders and 5A Coordinator Dave Williams. The rosters feature several Oregon State and University of Oregon 2017 commits. Incoming Beavers Andy Armstrong of West Salem, George Mendazona of Ridgeview, Adley Rutschman of Sherwood, Mitchell Verburg of Lake Oswego, Elliot Willy of Bend and Zack Zalesky of Corvallis will get acquainted with their future college field at the OregonAll-Star Series. A Goss Stadium regular, Joe Casey of Crescent Valley in Corvallis (OSU head baseball coach Pat Casey’s son) was also an all-star selection. Ducks-to-be Justin Herbert of Sheldon, Gabe Matthews of South Salem and Kenyon Yovan of Westview are set to compete in the series, as is Portland Pilots commit Chris Arpan of Jesuit and Washington State commit Cal Waterman of Summit. Summit of the Intermountain Conference and West Salem of the Greater Valley Conference were the most represented high schools with three players selected each.
