Schuster is in his 12th season as an NFL umpire. A member of referee Gene Steratore's officiating crew, Schuster was umpire for the AFC Divisional playoff game between the Patriots and Denver Broncos on Jan. 14. Schuster graduated from Alfred in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in business. He played four seasons (1976-79) for the Saxon football team, during which he was a two-time All-American wide receiver who once held the school record for career receptions. An assistant coach on the 1981 team that earned the school's first-ever NCAA playoff appearance, Schuster was elected into the AU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003. His younger brother, Bob, was an All-American quarterback who played for AU from 1977-80. A native and resident of Livonia, NY, Schuster is owner of the William Schuster Insurance Agency in Livonia. Winter in the Woods/Horse to Home Don't hide from winter: come out and enjoy it! Join W.I.L.D. About Alfred on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Equestrian Center for the official opening of the new winter trails. This beginner-friendly trail system loops around the barn, woods and hayfields and connects to Foster Lake. The Forest People will have cross-country skis and snowshoes to loan and a shuttle will be provided back and forth from Powell to the equestrian center. (If there's no snow - we'll still hike!) Hot chocolate and snacks will be available. At dusk, all are welcome for a rugged nighttime snowshoe hike led by Mark McFadden from the Equestrian Center back down to campus; be sure to bring your flashlight. This training is required annually. Lab safety training is in lieu of Hazard Communication (Right-To-Know) training. Topics included but are not limited to Understanding Hazards, Emergencies, Personal Protective Equipment, Working Alone and Unattended Operations. Both training sessions will be held Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 in the Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. The morning session will start at 8:20 a.m. and end at 9:40 a.m. The afternoon session will run from 3:20 through 4:40 p.m. Pre-register for this training by calling ext. 3020 or emailing Dean Perry at [email protected]. Submitted by: Dean Perry back to top Send Email Reminder Eye Candy Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art presents Eye Candy, a colorful exhibition of selected work from the Glidden, Wesp, and Gloryhole Collections. The exhibition will be on view until March 30, 2012. Open Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m,. on the top floor of Binns-Merrill Hall. All are welcome! Susan Howell Hall, 4:30-6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3. Food will be available, but you are welcome to bring a dish to pass. Also, we are looking for graduate students to join the leadership of this group. The lecture will take place on Feb. 6, at 5:20 p.m. in the Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall on the Alfred University campus. Xu Bing's Lecture "My Nutrition and Me Method" is one of a serious of events in honor of the opening of the McGee Pavilion. Xu Bing is an artist and original thinker best know for his ambitious installation works addressing relationships between images and text, materials and public intervention, in addition, artist and people. He is considered one of the most important Chinese artists of his generation. He has had solo exhibitions at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washington, D.C.; the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; and the Joan Miro Foundation, Barcelona. His works have also been featured at the 45th and 51st Venice Biennales. In July of 1999, Xu Bing was awarded the MacArthur Award for Genius. In addition, he was awarded the first Artes Mundi prize, a new art award created to stimulate interest in contemporary art in Wales. Xu Bing is the vice president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. She will describe what we can learn about personal integrity, social courage and self-empowerment from these women.
