Rashid Carter is a full-time faculty member at the City Colleges of Chicago, and teaches economics and business in the Business and Social Science Department’s at Harold Washington College. Prior to that he was the Chair of the Social Science Department at Olive-Harvey College. He is also returning to the classroom after spending the past year researching program offerings, as well as faculty and staff development, as part of the City Colleges’ Reinvention Initiative. Rashid is also a weekly contributor to WVON 1690 radio's "Dollars and Sense" and "Urban Business Roundtable" programs and a recurring guest and host on the weekly WYCC-TV production "The Professors". A native Chicagoan, he graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign where he studied business economics. He later earned his graduate degree in economics from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was awarded the Chancellor's Fellowship. Rashid was also a recipient of the 2009 NISOD Award for Teaching Excellence. C. Adam Callery is a consummate business professional with over twenty-five years of experience in the areas of engineering, banking, aviation, managerial consulting, and information technology. He is a tenured professor for the City Colleges of Chicago and currently serves as the Program Director for the Business and Computer Information Systems programs at Malcolm X College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. In his role as Program Director, he is responsible for curriculum development and academic scheduling. His professional career prior to academia has included employment with several leading corporations: Dow Chemical Company, Pepsi-Cola, First National Bank of Chicago, United Airlines, and IBM. While at IBM he co- authored an article entitled Avoiding the Blues for Aviation Travelers published in the IEEE Computer Society Press. He has applied this combination of practical and academic experience into the formation of a real estate brokerage where he has participated as a partner for the past five years and a small business coaching practice. He has completed his doctoral studies at National Louis University where his research has focused on the use of performance data to enhance organizational effectiveness. He is active in a variety of civic and cultural organizations including the National Black MBA Association and National Society of Black Engineers. Outside of professional interests, he travels widely, reads, cycles, snow skis, and white-water rafts. Ebony Crump is a lecturer at the City Colleges of Chicago where she teaches in the Business and Information and Technology department. Ms. Crump teaches Entrepreneurship, Finance, E-Marketing and Business courses. Ms. Crump is a member of the district Entrepreneurship team that designed and implemented the current Entrepreneurship program. Additionally, Ms. Crump co-designed and teaches a distance learning course in Entrepreneurship for the Center for Distance Learning. The City Colleges of Chicago Entrepreneurship program has educated more than 1,000 students since 2009. Ms. Crump has done many presentations on entrepreneurship including: a panelist on The Professors, a WYCC television production; co-presenter at the IIT Technology Conference on Entrepreneurship; moderator and panelist at the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship Conference; and co-presenter for the Entrepreneurship conference at Oklahoma State University, Tulsa. Ms. Crump’s area of expertise is Entrepreneurship education, Finance and Management. Ms. Crump also teaches for distance learning universities in the areas of Finance, Human Resource Management and Economics. Her current research project is distance education at the community college. Ms. Crump is a doctoral candidate at Northern Illinois University and has an MBA in Finance and BA in Management from National-Louis University. Kyle Garner currently serves as a tenured faculty member at Olive Harvey College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, teaching Business & Entrepreneurship. He employs innovative teaching techniques using technology and practical experiences to facilitate effective learning. In addition to being a faculty member at Olive Harvey College, Mr. Garner also serves as President & CEO of Da Capo, Inc., a full service private real estate development and general contracting company that offers assistance to individuals or companies to identify viable properties, financial institutions, architects, permit expeditors, contractors or real estate agents. Da Capo, Inc. will also serve as project manager and/or investor. Its mission is to improve Chicagoland’s housing community. Mr. Garner has augmented his career through theoretical study at prominent universities and through practical experiences with Fortune 500 companies. He received a Master of Science in Management, with a concentration in Marketing, from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Hampton University. Mr. Garner has also worked as an account executive with AT&T and as a Unit Manager with Philip Morris USA. His combined experience in the corporate, private, education and real estate industry qualifies him to professionally and efficiently complete any project. Brandon Pendleton is one of the newest members of the Harold Washington College Business department. Prior to re-joining City Colleges of Chicago, he was a Human Resources Business Consultant for Integrys Energy Group and also spent eight years as the Human Resource Manager for Harold Washington College. In that position, he was responsible for supporting approximately 895 employees. He was also responsible for the recruiting and hiring of faculty and staff, employee relations, collective bargaining agreement interpretation and enforcement, payroll, benefit administration and training. He was also a member of the HWC President’s Executive Council which was responsible for setting the strategic direction of the entire college. Brandon also actively chaired or served on seven different City Colleges and HWC committees which include: CCC 1708 FT Contract Negotiations, CCC 1708 PT Contract Negotiations, CCC 1708 Job Evaluation Committee, CCC Payroll System Selection Committee, HWC Service Excellence, HWC Male Mentoring, and HWC Graduation Committee. In addition, he was selected for the inaugural City Colleges of Chicago Leadership Institute and was a finalist for the Kathy Osterman Award which is an annual award given by the city of Chicago for recognition of superior public service. Brandon worked in HR for 18 years and began his career as an intern and ultimately a HR Associate for Ford Motor Company. He later worked in HR management positions at both Citigroup and Sears. Prior to joining Harold Washington College, he was the VP of Human Resources for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago. Brandon received a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and received his graduate degree from the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana’s Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations. Greg Washington is the founder of Mosaics and Hawks (formerly known as Financial Strategists) a business advisory firm established in 2002 and located in Olympia Fields, Illinois. The firm specializes in business financial education, capital acquisition for privately-owned firms and corporate supplier solutions. Greg has over 20 years of experience in banking, finance and economic development. He has an M.B.A. in Marketing and Banking from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, an M.A. in Urban Planning and Urban Economics from the University of Cincinnati and a B.A. in Urban Studies from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He has also taught at the college and graduate level as an Adjunct Professor of small business management at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois. Greg’s experience also includes several years of professional training in corporate finance, cash management, personal financial management and international trade finance. Greg is also CEO of Delta Café Ltd a food distribution company started in 2008. The firm distributes food products to Jewel, CVS and Walgreen’s. Mr. Washington is also adjunct faculty at Harold Washington College in Finance and business, as well as guest lecturer for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative. Greg has provided financial educational services and seminars to hundreds of business groups and organizations including American Express Tax and Business Services, NORBIC, The Industrial Council of Near West Chicago (ICNC) and the Purdue Entrepreneurship Center in Indiana. Greg developed “Trade Secrets: Confessions of an Ex-Banker,” an instructional CD-ROM on financing and its companion guide. He is also the creator of Capital Quest 1.0, an award-winning, interactive financial software product that teaches users about the ends and outs of securing capital. Greg is also the creator of FIT (Financial Intelligence Training) a training module that teaches students about the essentials of personal financial literacy and management.
