Some of those stories are funny and some are just truly amazing. We meet at a conference over a ACCE News is the official newsletter of the coffee (or something a little stronger) and share those stories among us. I decided a couple American College of Clinical Engineering of years ago that we needed to collect those stories and share them with everyone. (ACCE). I reached out to many of my friends in the HTM community to gather their funny stories. I Managing Editor combined those with the stories I already had and decided to publish a book titled ‘Tales Jim Keller [email protected] of the Bomed.’ I self published the book on Amazon in December 2017. As I was collecting the stories I ran across a post on LinkedIn about a funny note attached to a piece of medi- (610)825-6000 cal equipment. The note was very descriptive – ‘Ticks like a Bomb.’ I soon realized that we Co-Editors have all seen these funny notes attached to a piece of medical equipment that was malfunc- Ted Cohen tioning. I started on a quest to get more of those ‘funny notes’ from my friends and those [email protected] posted on other sites. I was able to get around 25 ‘funny notes’ that the person agreed to share and put them in my book. Ismael Cordero [email protected] Self publishing has been an interesting journey. The writing of the book is the easy part. You then have to design the cover, edit the book, layout the book in chapter form, create Circulation & Address Corrections an index and do all the promoting of the book. I’ve had help along the way. At the Fall Suly Chi, ACCE Secretariat 2018 MDExpo Conference in Seattle, TechNation did a short interview with me about my [email protected] book. AAMI also did a short blurb in the AAMI News. Just recently TechNation did a two Advertising page layout of my books, my work as an HTM Consultant and some of my future ideas for Dave Smith books. BMES approached me at the MDExpo in Houston to ‘give’ away a story in my book [email protected] as a way of collecting emails of prospective clients. They recently launched this on their website. Another marketing idea I had recently was to give away name badge ribbons at conferences. I will attend NCBA’s conference in Minnesota in September and that will be ACCE News is a benefit of ACCE member- ship; nonmembers may subscribe for $75. the first conference I can hand the badges out to fans of the book. I also plan to hand them out at MDExpo in Baltimore and the next AAMI conference. To subscribe e-mail [email protected] Copyright © 2019 by ACCE I knew I needed a simple way for HTM professionals to get their funny stories and photos to me so I created a website – https://TalesOfTheBiomed.com . The website has links to purchase the book, examples of funny stories and pictures plus a section for future books. ‘Tales of the Biomed’ has been a big success so I am working on a new version titled ‘Tales of the Biomed Part Deux.’ Not wanting to forget about the Amazing things we do in HTM I have started working on another book titled ‘Amazing Tales of the Biomed.’ This book will highlight the truly amazing things we do in the HTM field every day. A friend reached out to me recently and asked about IT stories. I thought that was a great idea so that will be another book titled ‘Tales of the IT Guy.’ It will be filled with funny stories and work orders around the IT field. I know we all have sev- eral of those stories to share! All my writing has not just been about the HTM field. I have done my family history for 30 years and had some truly amazing stories to share. One book I recently published ‘Royal Flush and Black Sunday – Apri16, 1944’ was about my 2nd cousin, SSG Elgin J. Luckenbach, who went missing in action in New Guinea during WWII. Elgin’s body along with those of his crew were discovered in the jungle of New Guinea in 2002. After DNA analysis the crew was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in April 2006. This was just a couple of weeks before the an- nual AAMI Conference in Washington DC. During the research on my cousin, I ran across a diary by a 1st Lieutenant who was a bombardier in the same unit as my cousin. I received permission from the family and published a book using the diary, letters, photographs and bombing mission reports I found during my re- search. I have collected enough information on the lives of the men of the 408th Bomb Squadron to publish several more books. If you are interested in publishing a book I will be happy to walk you through the process. The poll, now in its sixth year, gives the users of uefa.com, Europe’s football website, the chance to select a team of players who made their mark in European football over the last 12 months. Sixty players and managers have been nominated for 12 positions, including coach, and the final team will be announced on 19 January 2007 on uefa.com and in the January issue of Champions magazine. The nominees were chosen by uefa.com staff writers on the basis of their coverage of football throughout Europe on a daily basis. The players were selected for their overall performances either for a European club or national team, or in a UEFA club competition in 2006. The uefa.com Team of the Year is not intended as a rival to more established awards, and does not bear the official UEFA imprimatur. Nevertheless, it has already proved hugely popular with fans, and over eight million votes have been cast in previous polls. European champions FC Barcelona have the most nominees with eleven, while UEFA Champions League runners-up Arsenal have seven. English champions Chelsea FC have received six nominations and French champions Olympique Lyonnais and UEFA Cup holders Sevilla FC have five apiece. In total, 19 clubs have players nominated. Eight members of Italy’s FIFA World Cup-winning squad plus coach Marcello Lippi have been nominated.

The Guardian | Wednesday June 21 2006 11 David Pleat’s pick of the best If the sides were to meet later in the tournament and field their strongest teams, this would be my select XI Edwin Van der Sar Experienced, cool, authoritative and uses the ball like a libero. Johnny Heitinga One to watch. History of injuries but is now staking a place with steady defensive form from right-back. At 22 will steadily improve. Roberto Ayala Steadying influence: strong, good in the air for his size. Will lead his team. Gabriel Heinze Tremendous aerial ability. Plays accurately with his left foot into the channels. Prone to recklessness. Juan Pablo Sorín Has energy, aerial ability and a sweet left foot. Can be erratic in the tackle but a vastly improved player. Mark van Bommel Likes to break forward but I would make him sit, using his tackling and determination to break up attacks. Van der Sar Ayala Heinze Heitinga Sorín Mascherano Van Bommel Riquelme Messi Robben Van Nistelrooy Javier Mascherano The new Claude Makelele: quick into the challenge, good positional sense, plays early. Puts team before himself. Juan Román Riquelme Has grown in stature in a smaller pond at Villarreal. Lovely touch. Though lacking pace, shields well and brain and precision passing more than compensate. Needs protection from two holders. Lionel Messi Wonderful first touch. Takes ball on the move with vision and pace. Glides past defenders. A joy to watch. Ruud van Nistelrooy Elder statesman just edges it. Like Hernán Crespo a goal machine, but Tévez may eclipse both in time.
