However, it is now clear that we face an extended period of disruption for schools and educational settings across the country. As you are aware, Herts for Learning (HfL) responded to the pandemic by making significant changes to its training for both the summer and autumn terms. We put in place a revised programme of digitally-delivered events covering a wide range of subject areas. We will continue to consolidate our move to digital delivery of training for the spring term, alongside offering a range of face-to-face events, with the ability to transition to a fully digital programme if necessary. The overall programme continues to grow, with over 220 individual courses now available to book including an increased number of pre-recorded sessions that are available for delegates to view on demand.

Back in March 2020, when the true gravity of the situation first became apparent, Herts for Learning made significant changes to its training programme. We put in place a revised programme of digitally delivered courses in the expectation the disruption would be temporary. The feedback from delegates, many of whom were attending an online event for the first time, was overwhelmingly positive and over time we have all become more accustomed to remote delivery of training. Despite encouraging trends in infection rates and vaccination levels, it would be unwise to predict a return to ‘normality’ for schools in the near future.

During this crisis, almost all Universities and academic Institutions have adopted for quick transition from the regular classroom to online teaching and learning (OTL) through many applications (apps). However, the real challenges arise due to the lack of user experience with fully OTL apps, even in the most technologically developing world. Little research has assessed the availability and effects of OTL apps, hence, so far found as indecisive, just as research on the Coronavirus. Therefore, in this paper, various OTL apps that are used in academic institutions for the purpose of teaching and learning online are studied and compared to measure the quality of user experience with respect to several technical parameters. Initially, 45 features and 40 parameters of an OTL app are listed and classified into six different categories. Thirty-two OTL apps are identified, were studied, and compared based on all the features and parameters.
