Stuart MacGill

Stuart Charles Glyndwr MacGill (b. 25 February 1971, Mount Lawley, ) is a right-arm bowler of the Australian cricket team. Some close to Stuart say he is really a fast bowler trapped in a spin bowlers body! SCG MacGill began his domestic career for his home state of in ‘93/’94 but became a regular starter when he moved to New South Wales in the ‘96/’97 season. In his first match for NSW he took 6 and followed the season with a stint at county cricket for Somerset.

But 1997/98 was the breakthrough season for MacGill, in which he made his Test debut and finished with 35 wickets at 28.14 in the Sheffield Shield.

He made his debut for Australia in the 3rd Test against South Africa at in January 1998. As the second spinner he made a valuable contribution taking 3/22 in the second innings to help Australia hold on to a draw.

He next appeared in October of that year for a tour of Pakistan, finishing the series as Australia's top taker with 15 victims at 27.46. MacGill kept his spot in the side when they returned home for an Ashes series, again finishing as Australia's most successful bowler with 27 wickets at 17.70. His tally included his then career best innings figures of 7 for 50, made in the 5th Test at Sydney, taking a total of 12 wickets for the match. MacGill’s record is one of the finest of any leg spinner. In 42 test matches he has taken 203 wickets at 28.14. His first class statistics are even When was serving a drugs ban, MacGill better. In 179 games he has taken 752 wickets. traveled to the Caribbean in 2003 and for the next year acted as Australia's sole spinner. In 2005 he was Man of the Match against Pakistan taking 8 wickets, and in another test that year he claimed 9 wickets against a World XI. In the inaugural tour of Bangladesh, MacGill took 8/108 in the first innings, his career best figures to date.
