Digital Still Camera Image File Format Standard
Digital Still Camera Image File Format Standard (Exchangeable image file format for Digital Still Cameras: Exif) Version 2.1 June 12, 1998 Japan Electronic Industry Development Association (JEIDA) This standard makes no warranty, express or implied, with respect to the use of any intellectual property, such as patents, copyrights and trademarks, belonging to any corporation or individual. Nor does this standard make any warranty regarding system reliability or product liability. Windows™ is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and elsewhere. FlashPix™ is a registered trademark of Eastman Kodak Company. Revision History This "Digital Still Camera Image File Format Standard" is issued as a standard for the image file format (Exif: Exchangeable image file format) used in digital still cameras and related systems. It was first published in October 1996 as Version 1.0i. Then in May 1997, Version 1.1ii was issued, adding specifications for optional attribute information as well as stipulations relating to format implementation, in addition to the mandatory specifications of Version 1.0. The desire for a uniform file format standard for the image data stored by digital still cameras has increased as these cameras have grown in popularity. At the same time, with the broadening application of this technology, a similar desire has arisen for uniformity of the attribute information that can be recorded in a file. The Version 2.0iii makes improvements to the Exif format for greater ease of use, while allowing for backward compatibility with products of manufacturers currently implementing Exif Version 1.x or considering its future implementation. -
FOSS & Photography
FOSS & Photography What is FOSS, and how does it relate to photography? FOSS stands for Free/Open Source Software. Not free, as in price, although this is also often the case, but free, as in freedom. You are free to run the program for any purpose you choose, be it personal or commercial. You are free to make copies and share with your friends and family. You are free to inspect and modify/improve the source code, and share the results. I discovered FOSS many years ago, and as a philosophical decision, my digital equipment is run by almost only free software. My OS (GNU/Linux), web browser (Firefox), office suite (LibreOffice), RAW development (RawTherapee), photo editing (Gimp - GNU Image Manipulation Program). The entire system I am writing this on is run by free software. OK Nick. How does all this help me as a photographer? We all know how expensive this passion of ours can become. Between camera bodies, various lenses, filters, supports, lights, and the software to develop our creations, the expense can become extreme. As most people don’t know about FOSS, or any of the interesting projects that have been developed for the photographic community, for those with my philosophical disposition, or those who wouldn’t mind saving some money, I thought I could present a couple of FOSS options for photo editing....RawTherapee, and Gimp. With RawTherapee, and Gimp, you have two very powerful tools to develop your photos. Both are FOSS, and as such are free to download and update. Both are in constant development and improvement by dedicated teams of individuals, who are as passionate as we are about photography. -

School of Technology Abstract of Thesis Degree Programme in Information Technology _____________________________________________________________ Author Julia Benzar Year 2012 Subject of thesis Hardware and Software for Panoramic Photography Number of pages 48 In this thesis, panoramic photography was chosen as the topic of study. The primary goal of the investigation was to understand the phenomenon of pa- noramic photography and the secondary goal was to establish guidelines for its workflow. The aim was to reveal what hardware and what software is re- quired for panoramic photographs. The methodology was to explore the existing material on the topics of hard- ware and software that is implemented for producing panoramic images. La- ter, the best available hardware and different software was chosen to take the images and to test the process of stitching the images together. The ex- periment material was the result of the practical work, such the overall pro- cess and experience, gained from the process, the practical usage of hard- ware and software, as well as the images taken for stitching panorama. The main research material was the final result of stitching panoramas. The main results of the practical project work were conclusion statements of what is the best hardware and software among the options tested. The re- sults of the work can also suggest a workflow for creating panoramic images using the described hardware and software. The choice of hardware and software was limited, so there is place for further experiments. -
Understanding Image Formats and When to Use Them
Understanding Image Formats And When to Use Them Are you familiar with the extensions after your images? There are so many image formats that it’s so easy to get confused! File extensions like .jpeg, .bmp, .gif, and more can be seen after an image’s file name. Most of us disregard it, thinking there is no significance regarding these image formats. These are all different and not cross‐ compatible. These image formats have their own pros and cons. They were created for specific, yet different purposes. What’s the difference, and when is each format appropriate to use? Every graphic you see online is an image file. Most everything you see printed on paper, plastic or a t‐shirt came from an image file. These files come in a variety of formats, and each is optimized for a specific use. Using the right type for the right job means your design will come out picture perfect and just how you intended. The wrong format could mean a bad print or a poor web image, a giant download or a missing graphic in an email Most image files fit into one of two general categories—raster files and vector files—and each category has its own specific uses. This breakdown isn’t perfect. For example, certain formats can actually contain elements of both types. But this is a good place to start when thinking about which format to use for your projects. Raster Images Raster images are made up of a set grid of dots called pixels where each pixel is assigned a color. -

FOSS, 24Th April 2014 Digital Image Management 1. Introduction
FOSS, 24th April 2014 Digital Image Management Roger Hurley 1. Introduction I currently use three open source photography applications: digiKam for organising my image files; GIMP as a pixel editor; and RawTherapee as a RAW processor. There is a degree of overlap in functionality between these packages but, since this presentation is about organising digital photographs, this document concentrates on the image management capabilities of digiKam. In the old days there were two approaches: The Shoe Box - Put all the photographs into an old shoe box and look at them once a year; The Librarian - Carefully write details on the back of each photograph and file them away in albums; look at them occasionally. Having annotated the photos, they could be sorted by the date they were taken and/or their subject matter, depending on how much work you wanted to do. With the advent of digital photography, we gained the ability to store our images in a logical directory/sub-directory structure, creating virtual albums. These could be organised by date, event, subject matter, etc., or combinations of these, as indicated below: This is all very well, but it doesn©t give us much more than the old Librarian approach. However, digital cameras also save information about the images; this is known as metadata and most of it is saved as an exif file within the image file (.jpg, .tiff, .raw, etc.). An ex if file can contain a great deal of information about the image: make & model of camera; date & time when the image was created; camera settings - aperture, shutter speed, sensitivity (iso), focal length, white balance; flash settings, image resolution, etc.; file size and format; and so on. -

RAWTHERAPEE 3.0 Felhasználói Kézikönyv
RAWTHERAPEE 3.0 Felhasználói kézikönyv RawTherapee 3.0 Felhasználói kézikönyv - 1/35 BEVEZETÉS Üdvözöljük! Üdvözöljük a RawTherapee 3.0 program, a hatékony 32/64 bites nyílt forráskódú Windows, MacOS és Linux raw konverter program használói között! A RawTRherapee projektet 2004-ben a magyar programozó, Horváth Gábor indította útjára. 2010 januárjában Gábor úgy határozott, hogy a program forráskódját a GNU General Public Licenc alá helyezi, aminek az lett az eredménye, hogy számos tehetséges fejlesztő csatlakozott a projekthez a világ minden részéről. Mindannyiuk kemény munkája alapján büszkén prezentáljuk a RawTherapee 3.0-át! Reméljük, tetszeni fog neked is. RawTherapee 3.0 – a főképernyő A program első indítása Amikor első alkalommal indítod el a RawTherapee 3.0-át, a képernyő nagy része üres lesz. Ekkor a RawTherapee bélyegképeket generál a fotókról a központi ablakba. -

Which Image Format
CASE STUDY Which Image Format PNG PNG (Portable Network Graphics), an extensible file format for the lossless, portable, well-compressed storage of raster images. PNG provides a patent-free replacement for GIF and can also replace many common uses of TIFF. Indexed-color, gray scale, and true color images are supported, plus an optional alpha channel. Sample depths range from 1 to 16 bits. However, the format is not widely supported in common image programs. AVI AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave and is currently the most common file format for storing audio/video data on the PC. AVI’s are 8-bit per image plane. This file format conforms to the Microsoft Windows Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF) specification, which makes it convenient for sharing the image sequence between computers. AVI files (which typically end in the .avi extension) require a specific player that supports. RAW A RAW image format contains minimally processed data from the image sensor. RAW literally means unprocessed or uncooked. RAW images must be processed and converted to RGB format if it is a color image. Photron however, does not limit RAW as a unprocessed image. The “Bayer” check box must be selected to save the RAW image as an unprocessed image. RAW images have 8-bits per image plane. RAWW A RAWW image format contains minimally processed data from the image sensor. RAWW images must be processed and converted to RGB format if it is a color image. Photron however, does not limit RAWW as a unprocessed image. The “Bayer” check box must be selected to save the RAWW image as an unprocessed image.
