Summary : Studies on molecular phylogenies of Butterflies and Burnets have been increasingly frequent in the recent years, changing the systematics and taxonomy of these two groups. A full update has been performed in this work. -
Phylogenetic Reconstruction of the Evolution of Stylar Polymorphisms in Narcissus (Amaryllidaceae)1
American Journal of Botany 91(7): 1007±1021. 2004. INVITED SPECIAL PAPER PHYLOGENETIC RECONSTRUCTION OF THE EVOLUTION OF STYLAR POLYMORPHISMS IN NARCISSUS (AMARYLLIDACEAE)1 SEAN W. G RAHAM2,4 AND SPENCER C. H. BARRETT3 2UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research, 6804 SW Marine Drive, The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada V6T 1Z4; and 3Department of Botany, University of Toronto, 25 Willcocks Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5S 3B2 We investigated the origin of stylar polymorphisms in Narcissus, which possesses a remarkable range of stylar conditions and diverse types of ¯oral morphology and pollination biology. Reconstruction of evolutionary change was complicated by incomplete resolution of trees inferred from two rapidly evolving chloroplast regions, but we bracketed reconstructions expected on the fully resolved plastid- based tree by considering all possible resolutions of polytomies on the shortest trees. Stigma-height dimorphism likely arose on several occasions in Narcissus and persisted across multiple speciation events. As proposed in published models, this rare type of stylar polymorphism is ancestral to distyly. While there is no evidence in Narcissus that dimorphism preceded tristyly, a rapid transition between them may explain the lack of a phylogenetic footprint for this evolutionary sequence. The single instances of distyly and tristyly in Narcissus albimarginatus and N. triandrus, respectively, are clearly not homologous, an evolutionary convergence unique to Amaryllidaceae. Floral morphology was likely an important trigger for the evolution of stylar polymorphisms: Concentrated-changes tests indicate that a long, narrow ¯oral tube may have been associated with the emergence of stigma-height dimorphism and that this type of tube, in combination with a deep corona, likely promoted, or at least was associated with, the parallel origins of heterostyly. -

Key words: Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae, Charaxes jasius, Arbutus unedo, eastern Iberian silicicolous maquis, Sites of Community Importance (SCI), Iberian Peninsula, Cuenca, Serranía baja.

Abstract: Rediscovery of Callophrys avis (Chapman, 1909) in Sierra Morena (Andalusia) and some comments on its records in Spain (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae). The strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) is quite common in Sierra Morena (Andalusia, South Spain). However, one of the most closely related Lepidoptera to this larval foodplant, the lycaenid Callophrys avis (Chapman, 1909), holds only a single record from these mountains. The sighting of an adult in the central sector of Sierra Morena, 26 years after the publication of its historical record from the western part, is here reported. -

Chapman's Green Hairstreak
43. D ESCRIPTIVE CATALOGUE: LYCAENIDAE FAMILY Chapman’s Green Hairstreak Callophrys avis (Chapman, 1909) DESCRIPTION Wingspan: From 2.4 to 2.8 cm. Closed wings: Both wings are green. The margins are thin and brown, with white hairs (fi mbriae). There are clearly marked wavy lines on the wings. In Spanish, it was named Cejirrubia [Blond Eyebrows], due to the fact that its eyes have reddish or a kind of orange colour around them.Open wings: This species never stretches its wings, which are dark brown. KEY FOR VISUAL IDENTIFICATION Thin brown margins with white hairs (fi mbriae) Wavy white lines on the wings Eyes outlined in red 122 DIURNAL BUTTERFLIES • GR-249 Great Malaga Path Green Hairstreak: Generally, this species is bright green, and it has a series of dots on the hindwings, which often reduce to one dot. The eyes are outlined in white. Only one generation flies per year in March and August, depending on the season. It, above all, lives in cork oaks groves, but also on scrubland with a lot of strawberry trees (Arbutus unedo), at shady and wet zones, such as rivers, streams and cattle tracks, where the redoul (Coryaria myrtifolia) can be found. Their caterpillars feed on these plants, especially, on the former one. Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec It is rarely seen in Málaga. There are only two spots, stage 28 and 32, where it can be found on the GMP. In the case of stage 32, the colony setted on a lonely strawberry tree, without any other example of it kind nor redouls miles away from there. -

Phylogenetic hypotheses based on chloroplast data have 26 provided a backbone for the genus but a detailed phylogenetic framework is still 27 lacking. To fill this gap, we present a phylogenetic study of the genus using five 28 markers from three genomes: ndhF and matK (chloroplast DNA), cob and atpA 29 (mitochondrial DNA), and ITS (nuclear ribosomal DNA).
