St. The Vulgate is a late 4th century Latin translation of the . It was largely the work of St. Jerome, whose Feast Day is September 30th. He was commissioned by Pope Damasus I in 382 A.D. to make a revision of the old Latin translations. By the 13th century, this revision had come be called the versio vulgate, that is, the “commonly used translation.” The Catholic Church affirmed the Vulgate as its official Latin Bible at the Council of Trent (1545–1563). It remains the definitive and officially promulgated Latin version.

It is so good to be Catholic!

OBEDIENCE

“Obedience” does not mean blind subservience. We do not have a duty to obey false teachers. The first part of our purpose in life - “to know, love and serve God in this world so we may be with Him in the next” - requires us to come to know our Faith. The unchanged and un- changeable Truth is know-able, and it is our duty to know it, for the sake of our own souls, and for the sake of all others who may be led astray by “false teachers.” “False Teachers. There were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will introduce destructive heresies and even deny the Master who ran- somed them, bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Pet 2:1 “For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths.” 2 Tim 4:3-4 Let us strive each day to come to know our Faith better, so we will recognize the false teachers whenever and wherever they appear.
