Davidson’s first victory in newly-constructed Wildcat Park came in an exciting battle with West Virginia . A scoreless duel until the ninth, the Mountaineers took advantage of Buddy Durham’s lone mistake on the afternoon and belted a three- run homer . But when Ray Logan reached on an error to start the bottom of the ninth, the Wildcats found new life . Skip Waite belted a triple to score Logan for Davidson’s first run, and after Claude Owen drew a walk, West Virginia lifted Meadows — who had struck out 15 batters — for a reliever . Dick Lindsey promptly walked to load the bases .
