The visitors arrived in an Airbus A319 which is often used by the President of the Czech Republic, and the group included Government Ministers Barták and Kopriva, together with the Commander of the Czech Air Force, Major General Minarik. The purpose of the visit was for the Czech Republic to consider the possible purchase of up to four C-130K aircraft which are all due to be retired from Royal Air Force service. The visitors were given detailed briefs on all aspects of C-130 operations and maintenance, and were then shown around the MA Production facilities. The distance that this aircraft was able to fly was greatly enhanced as it was fitted with a full compliment of three lightweight auxiliary fuel tanks designed and manufactured by MA. The MA Aerostructures team currently has two major ongoing Boeing auxiliary fuel tank programmes and these are the auxiliary fuel system for the P-8A Poseidon aircraft (formerly the Multi-Mission Maritime or MMA) for the US Navy, and auxiliary fuel tanks for the B777-200LR – the first of which has been delivered to Boeing and is due to be installed shortly.

Their courage, their service and their professionalism make an immeasurable contribution both to building peace and stability around the world and to protecting our nation here at home. The Government is acutely aware of the debt we owe our Armed Forces, and our gratitude for the work they do in the service of our country is reflected in our recent initiatives on pay, on tax-free bonuses, on housing and on health care, as well as in our decision to commission a Command Paper on conditions of service and quality of life, which we will be publishing this summer. But beyond these individual initiatives, important though they are, it is vital for our serving men and women, especially those engaged in difficult and dangerous overseas campaigns, to know that the whole of Britain understands and appreciates the work that they do in our name. I believe the British public are fully behind the men and women of our Armed Forces, and people want to do more to pay tribute to them.
