Perhaps it is because I know that I have a holy vocation HOLY WEEK & VIRTUAL as a priest to be a man of faith. I know that I should be WORSHIP SERVICES a faithful role model for my family and church family. PG 12-14 But friends, one of my sins that I confess daily is the CALENDAR AND sin of ?lack of faith.? Because I am a worrier, yes, Jesus EVENTS speaks these words to me and to all of humanity. -

Diara Department of Religion and Cultural Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka- Nigeria Nche George Christian Department of Religion and Cultural Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka- Nigeria Doi:10.5901/jesr.2013.v3n10p43 Abstract The Anglican mission came into Igboland in the last half of the nineteenth century being the first Christian mission to come into Igboland, precisely in 1857, with Onitsha as the first spot of missionary propagation. From Onitsha the mission spread to other parts of Igboland. The process of the spread was no doubt, marked with the demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit; hence the early CMS missionaries saw the task of evangelizing Igboland as something that could not have been possible without the victory of the Holy Spirit over the demonic forces that occupied Igboland by then. The objective of this paper is to historically investigate the claim that the presence of the Anglican Church in Igboland marked the origin of Pentecostalism among the Igbo. The method employed in this investigation was both analytical and descriptive. It was discovered that the Anglican mission introduced Pentecostalism into Igboland through their charismatic activities long before the churches that claim exclusive Pentecostalism came, about a century later. The only difference is that the original Anglican Pentecostalism was imbued in their Evangelical tradition as opposed to the modern Pentecostalism which is characterized by seemingly excessive emotional and ecstatic tendencies without much biblical anchorage. -

BY VINAY SAMUEL & CHRIS SUGDEN he installation of Justin Welby as the 105th Archbishop Tof Canterbury was an energy creating event. We both witnessed it, one on the internet in Bangalore, the other in the nave of Canterbury Cathedral. The new Archbishop was unapologetic about putting his stamp of joyful evangelical Christian discipleship and service of Jesus as Saviour and Lord on the whole afternoon. As he entered the Cathedral’s West Door, in a liturgy he created, he was questioned by Evangeline Kanagasooriam, a 17 year old student of Sri Lankan origin. “Who are you and why do you request entry?” “I am Justin, A servant of Jesus Christ, and I come seeking the grace of God, to travel with you in his service together.” “How do you come among us and with what confidence?” “I come knowing nothing except Jesus Christ and him cru- cified, and in weakness and fear and in much trembling.” The service clearly affirmed the gospel of Jesus Christ as the one Lord and Saviour in the presence of leaders of other faiths and of liberal leaders in the Communion. Sermon Last Sunday after Pentecost 2016 November 20, 2016 St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church The Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde Forgiveness When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." Luke 23:33-34 I once heard a professor of religion liken the core values that all world religions share to a set of cards. Each religion, he said, has the complete set of values. Where they differ is in the ordering of them, which values—or cards—they place on top in terms of priority and importance. Yet the uniqueness and strength of each spiritual path is revealed, in part, by the particular value it considers to be of greatest importance. In Buddhism, the central spiritual value is detachment, the acceptance of suffering as the path to enlightenment. In Judaism, it is the sacredness of all life, striving to be faithful to God in the details of everyday living. In Islam, the core value is surrender to will of God. And in many Native American traditions, it is reverence for the earth, seeing all creation as holy. On this, the last Sunday of the Christian calendar, the essence of Jesus’ ministry is revealed to us. From the cross, Jesus reveals Christianity’s core value and spiritual cornerstone: forgiveness. His words--Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing--underscore the primary message and the central metaphor of his life. -

ATR/ 99.3 The Unfamiliar Lord: A Meditation on Four Christ Poems by Rowan Williams Tim Vivian* With the four poems discussed in this essay, Rowan Williams brings us deep into a land of both likeness and unlikeness. These thoroughly incamational poems are not besotted with the baby Jesus, but rather turn our attention to ourselves as incarnated beings, as incarnations of the incarnation. What trepidations does the incarnation bang with it? What responsibilities does it ask of us, require of us? With beauty of language and intrepidness of speech, Williams has put into verse profound theological, sotenological, and anthropological considerations. By doing so, he considerably widens our normal theological pathway into a sturdy trail (though not a paved avenue). Williams invites us to walk with him, poetry’s walking stick in hand, as we together explore the vast, known, and mysterious beauties of our incarnated earth, our incarnated Lord familiar and unfamiliar, our incarnated lives. Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury: An Appreciation On Friday, 16 March, Archbishop Rowan Williams announced that he would step down as leader of the 70 million strong worldwide Anglican Communion after being at the helm for a decade. In January 2013, he will be returning to Cambridge to take up the post of Master of Magdalene College. Reflecting on his tenure as Archbishop in a media interview to mark this announcement, Williams said: ‘The worst aspects of the job, I think, have been the sense that there are some conflicts that won’t go away, however long you struggle with them, and that not everybody in the Anglican Communion or even the Church of England is eager to avoid schism or separation’. When Rowan Williams was enthroned as the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, whose lineage could be traced to St Augustine who first set foot on British soil in 597, he was only 52, the youngest person to occupy this office for nearly 200 years. Even before he became the spiritual leader of the Anglican Communion, Williams has had a brilliant career in both academia and the Church. At just 36, he was appointed Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity at Oxford University, after serving as an ordained priest in Cambridge and lecturer in Divinity in the city’s university. In 1989, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinity, and a year later became a fellow of the prestigious British Academy. Williams was elected and consecrated as bishop of Monmouth in 1992, and in 2002 as the Archbishop of Wales. -
