The creation of a state for Jews where they could be safe was justified on this basis. But the new Israel also sought legitimacy for its choice of Palestine, a land already inhabited by an indigenous Arab people, through a series of myths, religious fantasies and distorted versions of history, many of which were swallowed whole, and continue to influence attitudes to Israel until today. Yet, Israel, whatever its pretensions, was quite clearly a settler colonialist creation engaged in the strictly un- mythological work of displacing the native Palestinian population and settling Jews in their place. This activity was a sine qua non of the Zionist project, without which there would not have been a Jewish state. And special agencies were created to develop the project and realise its objectives. One of the most important of these was the Jewish National Fund. Set up at the very beginning of the Zionist movement, in 1901, the JNF was the chief agent for the colonisation of Palestine. Its infamous history attests to its key role in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and its subsequent settlement by incoming foreign Jews.

The organization is based in the city of Leicester (home to a large Muslim population) and has branches in London and other British cities. Self-described as anti-Zionist, the FOA qualifies Israel’s policy as “apartheid”, supports Hamas and the “resistance” (i.e., terrorism), and seeks to put an end to Israel’s existence as the state of the Jewish people under the title of “liberation of Palestine”. Similarly to other organizations taking part in the delegitimization effort, the FOA attempts to conceal and play down its real objectives by fine-tuning its rhetoric for Western ears and using such terms as “peace in Palestine”, “respect for international law”, “respect for human rights”, and “implementation of UN resolutions”. 2. The FOA takes part in the campaign to delegitimize Israel in Britain, collaborating with like-minded organizations and activists in that country and elsewhere. In this context, it actively participates in the campaign to boycott Israel and Israeli products (BDS) and has even expanded the campaign to boycott large Western companies that maintain business relations with Israel (such as McDonalds, Coca Cola, and Amazon).

The Montoneros, believing they were on the threshold ofa social revolution, had come to greet their hero on June 20, 1973, and claim what they felt to be their rightful place next to the platform where he was scheduled to address the largest pubic rally of Argentine history.
