With your goal for a healthier you, I would like to focus on the Page 7 Dining Calendar importance of drinking water. A person should consume at least one cup of water for every 20 pounds of body weight daily. That’s around Page 8 Activities Calendar 6-8 glasses for the average person. Book Club meets on Monday, January 25, at 1:00 pm in the Library. The book for discussion is Downtown Owl, authored by Chuck Klosterman. (Provided by State Library Book Kit, may be picked up at the Site Manager’s desk after December 21.)

Set in a fictitious North Dakota town, Klosterman features three completely different characters who have never met but have the same question...what is “normal”? Follow their journeys as they try to survive a blizzard, 80’s pop culture, and their search for an answer.

3rd ANNUAL 20 MILE WALK

Do you eat meals or attend events at the Senior Center? Then you’re half way there!

Walk indoors at the Bismarck Senior Center, a safe and comfortable environment, at a moderate speed around the dining room hallway and kitchen serving line. Each participant receives a personalized tally sheet to record their laps.

The walk begins January 4 and ends March 25. Adults of 60+ years may walk any day Monday through Friday from 8:00 - 11:00 am or 1:30 - 3:00 pm, except when we have activities or parties.

Prizes will be awarded to those with the most recorded laps/miles on March 30 at the noon meal.

*A walker with wheels will be available to those who feel they need added reassurance/stabilization while walking.

January 7, 14, 21, & 28 This eight-week, one-hour class is all about February 4 & 11 healing and energy. There are 19 movements 10:30 -11:30 am done with or without shoes and no getting down on the floor. The class, taught by Sister Eleanor Stockert, is limited to 10 people and begins, Grab your mats and join us! DONELLA “DONNIE” JOHNSON THURSDAY, JANUARY 17 AT 9:15 AM A lot of people don’t know this, but Donnie was a dietician who wrote the menus for the Bismarck IN THE REC ROOM Senior Center back when it was established. She was also on the original Nutrition Planning Board for the Meals on Wheels program at the hospital. She and her husband, Dean, started coming to the center for meals about five years ago. She decided to be a volunteer coffee server during the noon congregate meal and is now the Thursday coffee bar attendant. You can usually find her wearing one of her very cute handmade aprons. She loves sewing and wearing her creations. Donnie is also one of our many “snow bird” volunteers and loves quilting. This year, she took ten quilts south with her to finish over the winter.

Donnie has four children, two boys and two girls. Three live in the Bismarck area and one is in Minneapolis. She has eight grandchildren and one great grandson. THANK YOU, DONNIE, for all you do!
