Overview of Toyohashi City Toyohashi City is located between Tokyo and Osaka, along the Pacific coast in the southeast corner of Aichi Prefecture, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, Mikawa Bay, lush Yumihari mountain range, and a clear Toyogawa River. It is a warm and peaceful city with a population of 380,000. Surrounded by nature and blessed with a mild climate, Toyohashi has a large agricultural sector and produces a wide variety of crops. Port of Mikawa Toyohashi Area is known as the nation's automotive trade center, and many large companies, including foreign affiliated businesses, are situated here. In addition, Omotehama, a white beach stretching along the Pacific Ocean, is a famous surfing location, and also known as a nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles. ●� Toyohashi was designated as a pivotal NAGOYA ●� city in 1999, and celebrated its 100th TOYOTA ●� anniversary in 2006. MUNICIPALITIES DISCUSS MERGER Two of our Newcastles of the World have, coincidentally, become involved in discussions to merge with their neighbouring municipalities. On February 8th the legislative authorities of Neuchâtel and of three nearby Swiss villages, Corcelles- Cormondrèche, Peseux and Valangin, decided in principle to amalgamate. After this first positive step the population of the four municipalities will have to make this decision by referendum on June 5th. The authorities are convinced that this merger would provide many advantages. Confronted by more and more technical, legal and financial challenges, they consider that a wider approach and a common treatment of many issues would allow greater efficiency. The new municipality – still called Neuchâtel – would experiment with a new form of direct democracy with six "citizen's assemblies" (assemblées citoyennes) in the former villages and in several quarters of the present city of Neuchâtel for decisions about very local issues and with the facility to refer and adopt proposals addressed to the municipal legislative. The "new Neuchâtel" would have about 45,000 inhabitants, an increase of 10,000 on current numbers. In Australia, the City Council in Newcastle, New South Wales, has been responding to proposals from the state government to reduce the number of municipalities to achieve efficiencies and savings and to improve service to residents. The Council has stated a preference to stand alone, but if, as expected, mergers are to take place then it will most likely be with the smaller Port Stephens Council to the north, giving a combined population of 230,000.

PRESS RELEASE April 19, 2019 Air Liquide opens Gamagori Hydrogen Station, first-ever hydrogen station to open inside a Resort Complex facility in Japan On April 22, Air Liquide Japan Ltd. is opening a station inside a Resort Complex facility, “Laguna Ten Bosch” in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture. This is the first time that a hydrogen station is opening within a Resort facility. This presence will contribute to meet increasing demand for hydrogen powered vehicles in the Higashi-Mikawa region, as well as to raise awareness on hydrogen as a key solution for the energy transition, in particular for clean mobility, and contribute to its recognition in society. The Gamagori Hydrogen Station is the first Air Liquide station to be deployed in the frame of the Japan Hydrogen Mobility (JHyM) national consortium. It is also the third station deployed by Air Liquide in Aichi prefecture, following the two stations already in operation at Nagoya Atsuta and Toyota Interchange Hydrogen Stations. “Laguna Ten Bosch” is an integrated Resort facility that overlooks the picturesque Mikawa Bay. With over 2.9 million visitors per year, it is one of the largest Resort facilities in the Aichi Prefecture and the largest in the Higashi-Mikawa region. “Laguna Ten Bosch” is located along the national highways Routes 23 and 247, both of which are the region’s main trunk roads. While several permanent hydrogen stations have already been installed along trunk roads such as the national highway Route 1 which connects the cities of Nagoya and Okazaki, Gamagori Hydrogen Station is near both Okazaki and Toyohashi, offering heightened convenience to the region’s existing users.

Sep. 13, 2013 Central Japan Railway Company The Effect of Bomb Disposal at the Hamamatsu Workshop Site on Train Service An unexploded bomb was discovered at the site of our Hamamatsu Workshop. Protective measures against the bomb have already been taken by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and there is no risk of explosion, but in accordance with the instructions from Hamamatsu City and relevant agencies, the bomb will be transferred to the Enshu-nada coast and disposed of by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force on November 10, 2013 (Sunday). This is to notify our passengers of the effects that the transportation of the bomb is likely to have on our train service. Possible effects on train service The bomb will be transported starting at 8:30 on November 10, 2013 (Sunday), and during this time, trains will be unable to enter the restricted zone set up by Hamamatsu City and relevant agencies. Therefore, services in certain sections of the Tokaido Shinkansen and the Tokaido Line will temporarily be suspended or cancelled. (1)Tokaido Shinkansen ・ Services between Hamamatsu Station and Toyohashi Station will be suspended while the restriction zone is in place. Therefore, there will be delays in trains passing through this section. ・ No trains will be cancelled. ・ Extra trains will be operated before service is suspended. ・ If the work progresses as scheduled, service is expected to return to the normal schedule at around 12:00. (2)Tokaido Line ・ While the restriction zone is in place, Westbound trains will operate to Hamamatsu Station and Eastbound trains will operate to Maisaka Station.

Its main results are: (1) the Okazakians are using more polite forms over the 55 years; (2) the effect of the three social variables (sex, age, and educational background), which used to be strong factors controlling the use of the honorifics in the speech community, are diminishing over the years; (3) in OSH I and II, the questions show clustering by the feature [±service interaction], while the same 11 questions in OSH III exhibit clustering by a different feature, [±spontaneous]; (4) the change in (3) and (4) can be accounted for nicely by the Democratization Hypothesis proposed by Inoue (1999) for the variation and change of honorifics in other Japanese dialects.

55th Anniversary of Toyota/Detroit Sister-City Relations (Consulate-General of Japan in Detroit Press Release Information) In 1960, a city to city relationship was created between Detroit, Michigan and Toyota, Aichi Prefecture based on the fact that both locations are “motor cities.” In the 55 years since this relationship began, ties between the two cities have only grown. Since 1965, Detroit and Toyota have participated in annual student exchange programs that allow students from both countries to experience the culture and style of their sister city. This creates international interest and experience at the most grassroots level and leads to many mutual initiatives and important discussions. In 1979 and 1983 respectively, Detroit send an Amur Tiger and a pair of South Canadian Cranes to Toyota. In 1982 and 1984 respectively, Toyota sent 1,000 Cherry trees and 10 Japanese monkeys to Detroit. Out of the 6 sister cities to Detroit, the exchange with Toyota has made it the most active one leading to a future with closer ties between the two countries and industrial growth. On this momentous occasion of the 55th anniversary between our glorious cities, Mayor Duggan, his senior advisor, members of the state department businessman and a student delegation will travel to Toyota city. The goal of this visit is to celebrate the occasion as well as explain the economic recovery of Detroit and improve the city’s image. They will have a chance to meet with Toyota’s mayor and city council, as well as the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo.

Travel Report Nagoya University of Commerce & Business Spring 2014 These are my honest experiences about my master level exchange term at the Nagoya University of Commerce & Business. The comments and insights are based only on my observations and insights and do not represent the general view on this university. 1. Preparations before the exchange After Aalto Biz has nominated you for NUCB you have to send several documents to NUCB. Compared to my other exchange term in bachelors level this is not too much work. The documents are returned to Aalto’s international office so you don’t have to mail anything to Japan. Here are the documents required by the UNCB: 1. Application form 2. CV/Resume 3. 2 copies of Passport 4. Document for proof of English Proficiency (Not required from Aalto students) 5. Essay "Details your reasons for choosing to study at NUCB Graduate School/in Japan” – one page (This can be almost the same as what you wrote to Aalto but make sure you change some of the parts in order to match NUCB’s requirements) 6. Official transcripts from your school 7. Application for Certificate of Eligibility (Visa document) 8. 3 photos (color copy is NOT acceptable) 40mm x 30mm/Should write your name on the back of the each photo 9. Bank statement or Financial statement (Cost 5 euros in Nordea) After few months you will get your Certificate of Eligibility accepted by the Japanese immigration bureau. When you receive this you will be able to apply Visa from the Japanese embassy. You will get the Visa within a day or two.
