David Hume Kennerly Archive Creation Project
DAVID HUME KENNERLY ARCHIVE CREATION PROJECT 50 YEARS BEHIND THE SCENES OF HISTORY The David Hume Kennerly Archive is an extraordinary collection of images, objects and recollections created and collected by a great American photographer, journalist, artist and historian documenting 50 years of United States and world history. The goal of the DAVID HUME KENNERLY ARCHIVE CREATION PROJECT is to protect, organize and share its rare and historic objects – and to transform its half-century of images into a cutting-edge digital educational tool that is fully searchable and available to the public for research and artistic appreciation. 2 DAVID HUME KENNERLY Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist David Hume Kennerly has spent his career documenting the people and events that have defined the world. The last photographer hired by Life Magazine, he has also worked for Time, People, Newsweek, Paris Match, Der Spiegel, Politico, ABC, NBC, CNN and served as Chief White House Photographer for President Gerald R. Ford. Kennerly’s images convey a deep understanding of the forces shaping history and are a peerless repository of exclusive primary source records that will help educate future generations. His collection comprises a sweeping record of a half-century of history and culture – as if Margaret Bourke-White had continued her work through the present day. 3 HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE The David Hume Kennerly collection of photography, historic artifacts, letters and objects might be one of the largest and most historically significant private collections ever produced and collected by a single individual. Its 50-year span of images and objects tells the complete story of the baby boom generation. -

LIFF 2017 Honoree Dan Wooding His Career Must Rate As One of the Most Unusual in Journalism
HEALING THROUGH THE ART OF CINEMA LOVE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL Liff.info Healing and Guiding Children Through Art The Lotus Light Children’s Charity | www.thelotuslight.org Love International Film Festival We are living in a world where chaos challenges every nation and every individual equally. Our mission is to live in a world where chaos challenges every nation and every individual equally. Fear of violence, hatred, persecution, misuse of religious and financial uncertainty follows us all. We stand divided in belief, nationalities and even within © countries-– ideology. We are a world that often seems bereft of hope or a unifying vision. It is our goal to turn the world’s eyes to the beauty that exist in front of us all. It is my hope that we will play a part in art and creativity returning everyone to the abundance that surrounds us all. When you look at our little planet from space, its singular beauty is clearly seen. Its smallness in the great void should communicate that we all live in one home. This world of ours is exactly that, it is a world of OURS; a place for all of us to share, build and nurture. Regardless of your religious beliefs, I hope you still believe in Love and Peace for all. Lets define God in his purest form as love and peace, and with this new definition, help each other and help build our home in a way that there is enough for all of us. This is the message of the festival, that through the power of creative energy and the efforts of filmmakers and artists alike, the world can become a unified and beautiful place. -

Cybill Shepherd and the Irritable Bowel
Cybill Shepherd and the Irritable Bowel By Sophie Lee Cybill Shepherd has revealed that she is a fellow IBS sufferer. The star of Moonlighting and Taxi Driver says that she has struggled with her symptoms for many years, and is now hoping to raise awareness of IBS and encourage sufferers to talk more openly with their doctors. She says: “For years I have been battling recurring constipation, abdominal pain and bloating. Go ahead and laugh. We laugh because we're embarrassed. In order for us to get relief, we have to talk about our symptoms and stop suffering in silence. “I have tried nearly everything: changing my diet and watching what I ate. I exercised regularly. I even tried taking fibre supplements and over-the-counter laxatives, but nothing helped with all of my symptoms. “My doctor used to tell me it was all emotional and psychological. So I got a new doctor. And a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. It was a huge relief to find out that my IBS with constipation was not all in my head and that it was a treatable medical condition. My doctor prescribed Zelnorm and it has provided me with relief for all my symptoms. In a lot of ways, I feel like my old self again.” And good for her! I think that many IBS sufferers will identify with what she says: from embarrassing, unmentionable symptoms to doctors who insist that our bowel problems are really in our heads. We may identify less with her relief from one drug alone (although the new drugs Zelnorm and Lotronex have had a good success rate in America), but we could all benefit from talking more openly with our doctors and looking for more solutions rather than accepting that IBS will rule our lives. -

"Do I Look Like a Chick?": Men, Women, and Babies on Sitcom Maternity Stories1
"Do I Look Like a Chick?": Men, Women, and Babies on Sitcom Maternity Stories1 Judy Kutulas On Monday evening, January 19,1953, forty million Americans watched as the very pregnant Lucy Ricardo (7 Love Lucy, 1951-57) emerged from her bedroom to declare that it was time to go to the hospital.2 What followed was a slapstick salute to 1950s gender stereotypes. Lucy, radiant and serene, was left behind in the panic her announcement generated. Husband Ricky had rehearsed the moment, but choked when it actually arrived, spilling her suitcase, losing the phone, and putting her coat on the neighbor. When they reached the hospital, it was dazed Ricky who rode in the wheelchair. The audience modestly bade goodbye to Lucy at the elevator door, thereafter watching Ricky's response to fatherhood. He paced the fathers' waiting room, exchanged comments with the other fathers about the advantages of sons over daughters, and finally fainted at the sight of his son. Fast-forward about forty years to the blended family of Frank Lambert and Carol Foster {Step by Step, 1991-present): Frank and Carol got off to the hospital without a hitch and we didn't say goodbye to Carol at the elevator. Instead, we saw her in labor, cranky and demanding. Frank was there too, inadequate and embarrassed. Their children, meanwhile, paced the waiting room no longer reserved for fathers, girls in blissful smiles and boys looking uncom fortable. How long does it take to have a baby, one boy asked another. "How should I know," was the reply, "do I look like a chick?" Two TV birthing stories, forty years apart, reveal some curious changes and continuities. -
Wendie D. Malick Class of 1972
Distinguished Achievement Citation Wendie D. Malick Class of 1972 It is an honor today to recognize Wendie Malick for her outstanding and prolific career in theater, modeling, film and television and for her commitment to working to make the world a better place. With pride, we present her with Ohio Wesleyan’s Distinguished Achievement Citation. After graduating from Ohio Wesleyan in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, Wendie experimented with a variety of jobs. She worked as an assistant to Congressman Jack Kemp, whose major platform programs focused on housing and racial equality, toured the country as a member of a professional women’s ski team, and was a professional model in New York and Paris for five years. The world of acting continued to beckon her, however, and she began to appear on such television shows as Seinfeld, Cybill, and Mad About You. She had recurring roles on Kate and Allie, Baywatch and NYPD Blue and in 1990, debuted in the popular HBO comedy, Dream On as Judith Tupper Stone, a role for which she earned four Cable Ace Awards as best Actress in a Comedy Series. Currently, Wendie is best known as the co-star of the wildly popular NBC sitcom Just Shoot Me, where she plays Nina Van Horn, the ditzy former model-turned - editor of the New York based fashion magazine, “Blush.” It is this role that garnered her an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Wendie began her career in the theater while here at Ohio Wesleyan under the tutelage of professor Bo Rabby.
