LAND On any given day, Sydney’s beautiful people are out pounding the stunning coastal track between two eastern suburbs beaches, Bondi and Bronte. They flock there because it’s one of the world’s most photogenic workouts: the 1.5-kilometre path passes along rugged headlands, goes up and down steep stairs and squeezes past Tamarama’s iconic Surf Life Saving Club. At Bronte, join the leather- tanned locals basking on an oceanfront bench or around the “bogey hole” — a pool formed by a ring of rocks near the ocean’s edge. If you want a more challenging walk, head to the Royal National Park (which was Australia’s first national park), about 35 kilometres south of the city, where you’ll find pretty rock pools aplenty. The picturesque Figure Eight Pools aren’t exactly easy to reach — the return hike can take up to three hours and the naturally formed pools in the coastal rock shelf are only safe at low tide — but visitors are drawn to the pools’ crystal-clear water and the precise outlines that inspired their name. SEA Learn to surf at Australia’s most famous beach, Bondi, or sign up for surf school at Manly on the harbour’s northern side. After all, Manly is one of four Sydney beaches on the National Surfing Reserve register — a list of Australia’s most iconic surf meccas. Beginners can try the gentle waves at Manly’s southern end while those with more experience can head to the stretch of water fronting the North Steyne Plane sailing: Surf Life Saving Club. unrivalled Manly also offers stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) views over Photography: Sydney Seaplanes Sydney Photography: the city and but if you’d prefer to paddle calmer waters, head to Middle harbour from the air. 05 Creature comforts: Taronga Zoo’s Roar and Snore experience; (below) the zoo’s giraffes have a million- dollar view.
