Lady. In Middle Please see staff The volume, which contains the ordinances and English and annual lists of wardens and members of the Latin. Fraternity, was copied by a single scribe from 21 Richard II to 19 Henry VI (1441). Thereafter it was enlarged and continued by a series of scribes. Entries from 1442-1689 were presumably made annually. The name lists, which it mainly comprises, date from ca. 1395 and continue from 1552, when female names cease to appear, as lists of the "Brethren of the Yeomanry of the Skinners" to 1689. The last list which refers to either the fraternity or sorority of the Assumption of Our Lady is that for 1549, indicating the secularisation of the fraternity during the reign of Edward VI. The lists are lavishly illustrated. They are important as they show a succession of datable border styles of illuminators working in London from 1487. That for 1528/9 is signed by Thomas Wygg of Paternoster Row (f. 52) The volume also includes several fine illuminations. The finest is a full page figure of Elizabeth Woodville, wife of Edward IV (f.32v). There is also a smaller portrait of Margaret of Anjou, wife of Henry VI (f.34v) as well as a full page illumination of Our Lady Crowned among the Saints in Heaven, which from its position seems to have been executed around 1492 (f.41r) 1 volume (ff. v and 124), coloured initials and rubrics; modern rebinding of wooden boards, in wooden case Former reference: MS 31692 LONDON METROPOLITAN ARCHIVES Page 3 WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF SKINNERS CLC/L/SE Reference Description Dates CLC/L/SE/A/004B/MS31693 The Book of the Fraternity of Corpus Christi. 1485? - 1734 Not available for online ordering. The book is primarily an annual illuminated list Please see staff of the Master and Wardens up to 1734. It was probably given its present form about 1485 when the regular lists begin. The names are described in the first entries as "the Brothers and Sisters of the Fraternity of Corpus Christi of the Craft of the Skinners of London entered at the Feast of Corpus Christi". This continues to 1586 inclusive, but from 1587 the lists are of the brethren of the mystery of Skinners indicating the secularisation of fraternities (and sororities) which began in the reign of Edward VI and continued with Elizabeth I. Each list is accompanied by an illuminated decoration; the quality of the later illumination is markedly variable. The book plainly replaced and in part incorporated an earlier volume. The exact date of its inception is therefore uncertain. The earliest substantial entry is a bound-in copy of the charter of Richard II of 1393 (with a fine illuminated initial) which may have been made close to its original date. However, there is also earlier material including ordinances dating back to 1365/6. 1 volume (modern rebinding of wooden boards), in wooden case Former reference: MS 31693 CLC/L/SE/A/004/MS30987 Ordinances ratified and signed by the Lord 1676 Apr 26 Not available for online ordering. The volume is foliated. There are some decorated titles, particularly to the inventories, including a fine initial (f.71r) and a face (f.79v). The volume comprises principally schedules relating to the various properties belonging to the Company, copies of wills, letters and other documents touching matters affecting the Company and inventories of the Company's Hall including armour, plate and linen. The contents are described in J. F. Wadmore, "Some Account of the Skinners' Company" (London, 1902) Appendix VIII, pp. 323-332. • Community Relations Funding Through Local Councils in Northern Ireland
Research and Information Service Briefing Paper Paper 130/14 28 November 2014 NIAR 716-14 Michael Potter and Anne Campbell Community Relations Funding through Local Councils in Northern Ireland 1 Introduction This paper briefly outlines community relations1 funding for groups through local councils in Northern Ireland in the context of the inquiry by the Committee for the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister into the Together: Building a United Community strategy2. The paper is a supplement to a previous paper, Community Relations Funding in Northern Ireland3. It is not intended to detail all community relations activities of local councils, but a summary is given of how funding originating in the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minster (OFMdFM) is used for grants to local organisations. 1 It is not within the scope of this paper to discuss terminology in relation to this area. The term ‘community relations’ has tended to be replaced by ‘good relations’ in many areas, although both terms are still in use in various contexts. ‘Community relations’ is used here for simplicity and does not infer preference. 2 ‘Inquiry into Building a United Community’, Committee for OFMdFM web pages, accessed 2 October 2014: http://www.niassembly.gov.uk/Assembly-Business/Committees/Office-of-the-First-Minister-and-deputy-First- Minister/Inquiries/Building-a-United-Community/. 3 Research and Information Service Briefing Paper 99/14 Community Relations Funding in Northern Ireland, 9 October 2014: http://www.niassembly.gov.uk/Documents/RaISe/Publications/2014/ofmdfm/9914.pdf. Providing research and information services to the Northern Ireland Assembly 1 NIAR 716-014 Briefing Paper 2 Community Relations Funding in Local Councils Funding from OFMdFM is distributed to each of the councils at a rate of 75%, with the remaining 25% matched by the council itself.
