Odesza Launch Foreign Family Collective ODESZA LAUNCH FOREIGN FAMILY COLLECTIVE SHARE FIRST SINGLE, TROY SAMUELA & MONSOONSIRENʼS “FIEND” LISTEN HERE ODESZA SOLD OUT U.S. HEADLINE TOUR CONTINUES ODESZA catapulted to the forefront of the electronic music scene in 2014 with the release of their new album, In Return (out now on Counter Records), and show no signs of slowing down. If anything, theyʼre speeding up. Although every show on their current U.S. headline tour has sold out in advance and they will perform at every major music festival this year, the duo looks to expand their influence in the electronic space with the announcement of Foreign Family Collective, an outlet for musicians and visual artists alike curated by ODESZAʼs Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight. Having flexed their A&R chops with the NO.SLEEP mixtape and party series, ODESZA will use their expert ear to launch the careers of their favorite up-and-coming artists. The first Foreign Family Collective release is a huge R&B/electronic pop banger from Troy Samuela and Monsoonsiren called “Fiend,” which was premiered earlier today via Complex. “Troy Samuela and Monsoonsiren are an unusual pairing for a track which is why this one is so unique,” explain ODESZA. “Troy Samuelaʼs synth work and heavy hip hop influence blend with Monsoonsirenʼs hauntingly beautiful airy vocals in a way that compliment each other in an unexpected way.” You may recognize Monsoonsiren as the singer on ODESZAʼs hit single, “Memories That You Call”, while Troy Samuela recently produced a remix of ODESZAʼs latest single, “All We Need,” and opened for ODESZA in New Zealand in January. This is only the tip of the iceberg for the promising new label. Future singles include one from ODESZAʼs current tour mate Big Wild, who shared the stage at ODESZAʼs first ever NO.SLEEP event in San Francisco during their sold-out North American In Return headline tour this past fall. The duo keep things unpredictable, never relying on same beat for too long, their music making you feel as if youʼre being teleported into the future that's nostalgic for the past.” - Noisey “Mixed in with their classic approach are a number of choice guest appearances and snazzy experiments that push the limits of their sound.” - Seattle Times “...a surging contra-EDM movement…the duo blend deep house, bass, garage, chill wave and glitch-hop into an occasionally nostalgic but always airy summer soundtrack.” - Herald Sun (Australia) “Thereʼs a certain finger-on-the-pulse feeling with ODESZA. Their grasp on the direction of electronic music sets them apart and theyʼre becoming the gold standard of acts born from sounds exchanged on the internet.” - Paste (“Best of Whatʼs Next”) “ODESZA has already demonstrated the ability to take root in the future and garage house genre as a power team to watch, and continues to showcase their forward thinking ear for the genreʼs sound.” - Dancing Astronaut "synths, glitched-up vocals and dance beats mixed in gorgeous tracks that resisted the prevailing trends and tropes of todayʼs electronic music.” - The Aspen Times “quite possibly the greatest show Iʼve ever seen in my entire life.” - Earmilk Download Foreign Family Collective hi-res images/cover art: http://pitchperfectpr.com/foreign-family-collective/ Foreign Family Collective online: http://foreignfamilycollective.com http://facebook.com/foreignfamily http://soundcloud.com/foreignfamily http://instagram.com/foreignfamily http://twitter.com/foreignfam ODESZA online: http://odesza.com http://odesza.co/facebook http://odesza.co/twitter http://odesza.co/instagram http://odesza.co/soundcloud http://pitchperfectpr.com/odesza/ For more information, contact: Patrick Tilley | Pitch Perfect PR – [email protected], 414-507-3667 ### .

Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.
