TN Promise Events 2017 Bicentennial Capitol Mall Volunteer Promise Saturday DUE TO THE WEATHER FORECAST, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. Students can register for service projects and earn required service hours.Students should bring gloves, water, and lunch/ snacks if needed. Help the Rangers clean up the picnic area by picking up limbs, and sticks, raking and bagging leaves, and picking up litter.Meet at the picnic shelter by 7:45 a.m. on June 24, 2017 to sign in. Please wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and closed-toe, sturdy shoes. This boardwalk was built in 1977 by park staff and volunteer school students from the area. Let’s spend the day getting this structure back into shape. We will replace floor boards, fix handrails, and carryout old materials that have fallen and been left behind. We will meet at the park office at 8am and travel to the trail head where we will hike to the boardwalk to start the repairs.Please call ahead for this work day so the park staff will be able to prepare the tools needed for the work day. Depending on attendance and weather, the projects may vary. We can utilize and welcome any and all hands, regardless of your skill level. Work will be moderate to difficult. We will be splitting and stacking firewood for Bledsoe Creek campers. Water and cooling stations will be provided throughout the day.Please wear long pants and close-toed shoes. Bring gloves, lunch, snacks, and sun block. You will be turned away if you show up in sandals or flip flops.Work will be easy to moderate. Bledsoe Creek State Park will be holding a state wide TN Promise Saturday. Hours will be from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Volunteer opportunities include Trail Building and work on Historical type buildings. Participants should bring a lunch and work gloves and expect to get dirty. Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes. You will be turned away if you show up in flip flops or sandals.Bledsoe Creek State Park TN Promise Saturday will be held on June 24th, 2017. Hours are 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.Activities are Trail Building and working on Historic Structures. Activities will include moving dirt, digging trail, and cutting and moving limbs. This work day is open to the public. We will meet in the parking lot in front of the Nature Center. We ask volunteers to please wear pants, closed toed shoes, and clothing they do not mind getting dirty. Please also consider bringing susnscreen, bug spray, and water. We will be performing a varitey of tasks. These could include light maintenance, painting, landscaping, trail work, or painting. All volunteers are asked to bring work gloves, a water bottle, bug spray and wear closed toe shoes. We will begin the day at 8 am and work until 5 pm. We will break for lunch (not provided) from 12 pm- 1pm. Any interested TN Promise students or members of the general public are invited to take advantage of this volunteer opportunity. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. The work day will consist of landscaping, exotic plant removal, and grounds maintenance. Tools and work gloves will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you'd like. Please bring plenty of water and a lunch or snack if you'd like. We will meet at the main park office and then break into groups to start the projects. Park office is located at the main entrance of the park next to the flag pole. Anyone is welcome to attend, this event is not limited to Tennessee Promise students. 6/24/2017 Contact: Ranger Hatmaker Contact email: [email protected] Contact phone: 423-566-9350 Cumberland Trail TN Promise Saturday - Blue Hole Litter Patrol Join rangers of the Cumberland Trail working to improve the North Chickamauga Creek Gorge State Natural Area. This beautiful destination for hiking, swimming, and enjoying the outdoors takes some abuse due to its popularity and heavy usage. We'll meet at the kiosk at 10 AM and proceed to the Blue Hole to cleanup litter and debris. The day will probably provide a chance for some swimming as our work will take us out into the park and by the creek.Bring a sunscreen, insect repellant, sack lunch/snacks & plenty of water. Come dressed for the weather, including long pants, and bring your own work gloves if you have them. Gloves & tools will be provided for those who need them. Hiking boots or tennis shoes are recommended, NO open-toed sandals. Come help Cummins Falls stay the beautiful place in Nature that it is, by helping with litter pickup and other trash removal. We plan to pick up litter from the parking lot area, along the trails and the route upstream along the Blackburn Fork State Scenic River, as well as the area at the bottom of the Waterfall.
