He has a reputation for his high expectations, but that just makes Holmes laugh and shake his head. “Some people want to build crap and just make it look good,” Holmes said. “I find that funny, we should aim high. If someone is building a home would you not want them to have high expectations?” The approval seal from Holmes isn’t just a rubber stamp. Each home is inspected during and after its construction with a thorough review, including building envelope reviews, thermographic scans and a complete review of final finishes. “It’s about the builders, homeowners and the environment,” Holmes said. “Empire is Energy Star (approved), too.” Empire was recognized by Energy Star for the Wyndfield development in 2014. “It's adding confidence to the home buying process,” Empire co-founder Paul A. Golini Jr. said. "Like (Holmes) said, we are Energy Star and this just adds to our credibility.” Once all inspections are complete, Empire homeowners will receive a Holmes Approved Homes report as a transparent record of their home's construction and to help build future value. “By providing our homeowners with transparent proof that their home has been built to be safer, stronger and more durable thanks to superior construction practices and a strict adherence to proper code, they can have peace of mind knowing their future home has been built to last and is a smart investment,” Golini Jr. said. The hundreds of homeowners in attendance Saturday had the chance to meet and get their picture taken with Holmes, while also having the opportunity to tour the four model homes and learn about the inspections that will take place as part of the program.
