STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES

Equestrian Canada (EC), the national equestrian federation of Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of in all activities under its jurisdiction. EC is committed to: • Upholding the welfare of the horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities; • Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; • Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose; • Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure; • Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; • Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization’s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competition; • Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of the horses.

The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive nor inhumane.

The OLD HOME WEEK ENGLISH HORSE SHOW is a sanctioned Gold C Level competition member of Equestrian Canada and is governed by the rules of Equestrian Canada.

All competitors are expected to know and obey Equestrian Canada rules and the rules of the Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee has the right to refuse entries. Incomplete entries will not be accepted.

Approved headgear is mandatory at Old Home Week – Article A905, G102 – EC Rule on Headgear. All competitions must wear ASTM, SEI OR BSI approved headgear, with safety harness correctly secured at all times while mounted on Old Home Week grounds.

A801.6 -Person Responsible (PR) must sign the competition entry form.PR must be an EC Sport License holder in good standing OR in the case ofjunior/minor owner entries, a parent/guardian is entitled to sign as PR In the case of USEF member entries PR may also be a USEF member in goodstanding (see Article A213.2). From Glossary PR

PERSON RESPONSIBLE The Person Responsible (PR) for a horse must be an adult who has, or shares responsibility for the care, training, custody, and performance of the horse and who has official responsibility for that horse under EC Rules. The PR is liable under the penalty provisions of the applicable EC Rules for any rule violations. Every entry form for an EC sanctioned competition must identify the PR and be signed by the PR. The Person Responsible is ultimately responsible for the condition, fitness and management of the horse and is alone responsible for any act performed by himself/herself or by any other person with authorized access to the horse in the stables, elsewhere on the grounds, or while the horse is being ridden, driven or exercised. A: For adult entries into EC sanctioned competitions the PR shall be either the trainer, the owner of the horse of the competitor who rides or drives the horse during the EC sanctioned competition. B: For Junior entries into EC sanctioned competitions the Junior competitor cannot be the PR. For Junior entries the PR may be either the trainer, the owner of the horse, or a parent/guardian of the Junior competitor.

DRUG TESTING FEES: A1006.2. Any horse entered in any class at a competition subject to the requirement to pay medication control fees may, while on the competition grounds be selected for equine medication control testing. A failure to cooperate with the medication control officer may result in penalties in accordance with the rules.

MEMBERSHIPS: All Canadian owners and riders must have a valid EC Gold Sport License (A205). Competitors also require a provincial sport organization (PTSO) membership to compete. You may purchase a Single Event Upgrade (A211) or License Transfer (A212) for a Silver or Bronze Sport License to Gold License OR purchase a Temporary Sport License (A208) not eligible for points. All senior competitors competing in Amateur classes must possess an EC Amateur Card and must present it to the competition secretary on request.(A902).

PASSPORTS: ARTICLE A402 GENERAL RULES - HORSE RECORDINGS 1. Horse Recordings are mandatory for all horses and ponies entering ECsanctioned competitions when required by discipline/breed sport rules and must be available at the competition. (See Article A411 – EC National Passport or FEI Passport Unavailable). 2. All owners must be familiar with their responsibilities with respect to Horse Recordings and the penalties which can be levied for failure to abide by the rules set out in this chapter. Compliance with these rules is essential to track a horse’s performance, status and points for EC awards. 3. The Horse Recording number is the control number used by EC and must be included on the entry. 4. Horses must be entered under the name appearing on the Horse Recording. 5, Owners and competitors of horses holding a Horse Recording who wish to apply for an for FEI passports refer to Article A412, FEI Passports. 6. Entries in height-restricted classes in competitions where Horse Recordings are required must have the information recorded on the Horse Recording or a temporary measurement card available prior to the start of the class or the entry will not be allowed to compete.

ARTICLE A410 REQUIREMENTS 1. EC sanctioned competitions require the following (where applicable) An active Horse Recording

An EC National Passport (with active Horse Recording component)

An FEI Passport (with active Horse Recording component) 2. If an EC National Passport or FEI Passport cannot be produced, the person responsible must complete a Temporary Horse Registration form and pay the temporary registration fee. No points will be tabulated. 3. Results achieved while competing with a Temporary Horse Registration may not be used to qualify for year-end awards, championship competitions, finals or subsequent competitions requiring clarification. EXCEPTION: A404 EXEMPTIONS EXCEPTION: Foreign owned horses may compete with national passports recognized by the FEI. USEF horses may compete with a valid USEF Horse Recording number. ARTICLE A411 EC NATIONAL PASSPORT OR FEI PASSPORT UNAVAILABLE 1. If an EC National Passport or FEI Passport is not available because it is: a) a new EC National Passport or FEI Passport that has not yet been received or processed; or b) an existing EC National Passport or FEI Passport that has been sent to EC for validation, revalidation (FEI Passports only), change of ownership or name. The competitor must obtain from EC written notification the EC National Passport or FEI Passport is en route or being processed. The notification will include the horse’s name and passport number, and whether it is an EC or FEI passport. (Note that this service is subject to the standard EC rush fee as listed in the current EC Schedule of Fees). The person responsible must sign the EC National Passport or FEI Passport Affidavit. Both the EC notification document and the signed affidavit must be presented to the competition entry secretary before the entry can be accepted.

NUMBERS: Will be released ONLY when Entry Form is fully complete and payment is left in the Horse Show Office to provide a guarantee of payment for each number issued. Numbers will be worn and visible at all times in the schooling and exercise areas and in the competition ring (A814) A separate number deposit of $10. Is required with registration. This deposit will be returned upon return of the number to the show office.

DRESS CODE: ARTICLE G109 DRESS 1. All competitors must be properly dressed in the confines of the arena. This includes the inspection of the course and at the presentation of prizes. 2. Competitors should be neatly and suitably dressed in coat, shirt and tie, choker or stock, breeches or and traditional black or brown boots. Black or brown smooth leather or leather like half chaps are permissible providing they match the boot colour. Note that breeches and boots (not half chaps or paddock boots) are mandatory in FEI Children's Jumping classes. Only approved helmets (see Article G102) of a conservative color are allowed. 3. If competitors are not suitably dressed, the judge may refuse to allow them to compete. 4. In hunter competitions, in extremely hot or inclement weather, riding jackets are optional at the discretion of the Competition Organizing Committee. 5. In jumper competitions, riders may, at the discretion of the Competition Organizing Committee, be permitted to wear dress or riding shirts with or without chokers and ties or open-neck shirts without jackets; no sweatshirts, t-shirts, tank tops or other similar dress will be permitted. Shirts must be neatly tucked into riding breeches.

6. At all EC-sanctioned competitions, anyone mounted on a horse must wear the required headgear (see Article G102.1) as well as safe, appropriate footwear.

DOGS: Due to the Provincial Exhibition Insurance Policy, dogs are not allowed on our premises. The only exception is Assistance Dogs who are properly identified with official tagging.

SCHEDULE: The show management reserves the right to cancel, postpone change or reschedule any class or division or refuse to accept any entry as they deem advisible in accordance with the rules of Equine Canada. Daily schedules will be posted in the show office and at the in gate.

ADDS: Day of class adds may only be made by entries received by the closing date. Adds must be made in the show office on official add forms and must be received ½ hour before the start of the class in person by the rider or owner. Class fees must be paid at this time. Adds are subject to the discretion of the office manager. Post entries will go first in classes.

SCRATCHES: If scratches are received in writing prior to the close date, all entry fees will be refunded less the $30. Administration fee. After this time, there will be no refunds unless the owner or rider presents an original veterinarian or medical doctor’s certificate. The owner or rider of any horse that does not compete in a class in which it is entered and is not scratched according to these procedures is fully liable for all fees (A816).

Wash Area: A designated wash area for horses will be available. Horses will not use the wash racks designated for cattle at the front of the main building.

STALLS: Stalls are limited so it is on a first come (completed entry) first served basis and are free this year. Please bring a tarp or covering for equipment in case of rain. Fill out the separate stall form and please indicate on this form who you wish to be stabled with. The stable manager will do their best to accommodate you wishes. Upon arrival, please contact the stable manager at the front of the tent before entering the tent. Stall fees are not refundable.

If a stall is required before or after scheduled time, you must receive permission from the Show Office or the main Office at 902-629-6623.

All stalls MUST be stripped before leaving the show. If requested the stall can be cleaned for you at the end of the show for an additional $20. This arrangement must be made at the show office and payment must be made at that time.

Tack stalls may be available but will be allocated only after all horses are stabled.

SHOW OFFICE: The show office will open 60 minutes before the start of the competition and will close 30 minutes after the last class of the day. It will also be opened on the August 16th. from 4 pm to 10 pm. You may also call the OHW main office for information – 902-629-6623.

PONY MEASUREMENT: In the case of ponies six years or over, the owner must enter a statement as towhether the pony is small, medium or large and this must also be signed anddated. For ponies under six, see Article A1104. Where applicable, the pony measurement section must be completed.Temporary pony measurement forms must be in the possession of theowner/lessee and available to competition management or stewardsARTICLE A1104 TEMPORARY MEASUREMENT FORMSUntil a horse is six years of age, a temporary measurement form must be obtained annually. Such forms remain valid for the calendar year.

SCHOOLING: Schooling rounds will be available on Wednesday evening from 8 – 10 pm. Rounds will be for 3 minutes at a cost of $15. Time slots are limited so please indicate if desired on entry form. Times will be allotted on a first come first serve basis.

HIGH POINT AWARDS: High Point Pony points will be calculated from all flat and O/F classes with the same pony/rider combination. High Point Hunter (horse) points will be calculated from all O/F and U/S classes in hunter divisions with the same horse/rider combination.

MANAGEMENT: Management reserves the right to interpret all questions and conditions regarding or arising out of the show without claims, damages or recourse of any kind. For all questions not covered in these rules, horse show management shall decide regulations and management’s decision is final. The Horse Show Management reserves the right to refuse, accept conditionally or to cancel any entries, disqualify riders or exhibitors, prohibit claim damages, change any course, cancel or combine any unfilled classes.

SPECIAL AWARDS

PREMIER’S CUP: Awarded to the horse/rider combination who accumulates the most points in the jumper division and grand prix at the 1.10m/1.15m level. PRESIDENT’S CUP: Awarded to the pony/rider combination who accumulates the most points in the pony hunter and pony divisions. LT. GOVERNOR’S CUP: Awarded to the 1st. place horse/pony in the sport horse/ warm blood (registration papers required) line class. 100% conformation. GERRY WELDON MEMORIAL MARITIME BRED CUP: Awarded to the 1st. place horse/pony (bred in the Maritimes – registration required). Performance 40% Conformation 60%. PETER & CHARLIE GOODWIN MEMORIAL HIGH POINT HUNTER HORSE: Awarded to the horse/rider combination accumulating the highest number of points in hunter divisions. SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD: Awarded to the rider who receives the highest number of votes from fellow riders. Ballots and voting will take place in the office. One vote per rider. DIVISIONS

Fences will be set according to small, medium and large pony heights and distances. The course must include at least two changes of direction and may include a combination. In addition, at least three of the following requirements may incorporated into the course: fences; add a stride in a line; hand gallop to a jump; roll back or broken line. The top 4 competitors may be further tested on the flat.

Class 105 GREENHAWK Horse Equitation Medal Class: Hunter Equitation

Entry Fee $25. Not Rated for EC Awards

Awards: Gold, Silver, Bronze Medals, Ribbons to 8th. place

Fence height 3’ (.90M). Riders competing in the horse medal equitation medal are not eligible to compete in the pony equitation medal. Open to Junior and Senior riders on horse – no ponies permitted. Riders competing at 1.10M or higher are not eligible to compete in this class. To be shown over a course of n o less then 8 fences. The course must include at least two changes of direction and may include a combination with an oxer. In addition, at least three of the following requirements will be incorporated into the course: trot fence; add a stride in a line; hand gallop to a jump; broken line or a broken line. The top 4 competitors may be further tested on the flat.

MISCELLANEOUS UNRATED CLASSES Not rated for EC awards

Class 106 $200. Dog and Pony Class (Limited to first 12 riders who enter) Please register for this class at the show office. Open to JUNIORS only.

Entry Fee: $20. Prize money, trophies and ribbons. Team 1 - $100. Team 2 - $50. Team 3 - $50.

At least 4 fences not to exceed 2’6” or 0.75m A team of 1 dog and 1 pony/horse will e timed in a relay round. A tie breaker will be in place if needed. The dogs will be provided by The Fast & Furious Fly Ball Club of Charlottetown. Names will be drawn from competitors entering the class for a dog match up. Open to ponies / horses that have competed in at least one over fence class at this competition. (Short stirrup classes DO NOT qualify for this class.)

Class 107 Grammie Manning Lead Line Class

No Entry Fee: Rider and leader must have IHC or other PTSO Membership. Open to riders under the age of 8 years and must be led by a person who is over the age of 18 years. All leaders must be appropriately attired and have suitable footwear – no sandals or shorts.

Class 108 Gerry Weldon Memorial Maritime Bred ENTRY FEE: $25.

Prize money: 1st - $40., 2nd- $35., 3rd - $30., 4th - $25., 5th - $20.

Open to horses and ponies whose shire and dam at the time of conception stood either in N.S., P.E.I., N.B., NFLD. English tack only. Must include a copy of Maritime Bred Certificate or letter from the breeder with entry. Please include name of sire and dam (breed of horse if known) on entry form. Horse are to walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Upon completion of the under saddle portion of the class, the horse is stripped of tack and judged for conformation and best type. Judged on Performance 40% and Conformation 60%.

Class 109 The Lieutenant Governor’s Cup ENTRY FEE: $25.

Prize Money: 1st - $40., 2nd - $35., 3rd - $30., 4th - $25., 5th - $20.

Entries must be registered with the Canadian Sport Horse Association OR other Warm Blood horse/pony associations – CWHBA, KWPN, AHS, ATA, Etc. Certification of registration MUST be presented with entry. Please send a photocopy to show secretary for review. Entry will not be accepted without this certificate. LINE CLASS ONLY – horses and ponies to be judged for conformation and best of type. Judged on conformation 100%.

SHORT STIRRUP DIVISION ENTRY FEE: $30. FENCES: 18”

Prize Money: 1st - $30., 2nd - $25., 3rd - $20., 4th - $10., 5th - $10.

To be judged over a course of 6 – 8 fences not to exceed 18”. Distances will not be adjusted from horses to ponies. Open to riders until the end of the calendar year in which they turn 14. Open to ponies and horses. Rider CANNOT cross enter in any other O/F classes at the show.

Class 122 - Open to all ponies that have competed and completed in at least one hunter O/F class at this competition. To be shown in 2 rounds of their respective heights. 4 ponies will be invited to return for the second round. The first round to be 10 or more fences and the second round to be held over a shortened course.

Class 123 - Open to horses that have competed and completed in at least one hunter O/F class at this competition at 3’ or higher. NO PONIES ALLOWED. To be shown over 2 rounds. The first round to be 10 or more fences and the second round to be held over a shortened course. 4 horses will be invited to return for the second round.

Class 124. Open to horses that have completed at least one o/f class at this competition at 2’9” or higher. The class combines a Hunter Classic with a Handy Hunter class in a one round format. Course consists of at least 12 fences. Each horse/rider combination will receive a numerical score based on 3 elements (out of a possible 120 pts) 1) Overall hunter form – score out of possible 100 pts. 2) Rideability and Handiness – scout out of possible 10 pts. 3) High Performance – score out of possible 10 pts. Obstacles can include post & rail fences, stone walls, white board fences or gates, fences with both brush & timber, hedges, brush, logs or natural foliage. Course walk.

HACK DIVISIONS

Article G1201, G1203, G1204, G1205, G1206, G1207, G1302, G1303 Passports not required of horse/pony ONLY shown in Hack Division. English pleasure to be shown at a flat footed walk, normal trot and easy canter, not to hand gallop. Light contact to be maintained. Road Hack to be shown at a flat footed walk with a reasonably loose , trot, strong trot, easy canter and hand gallop.

It is hereby recognized that all equestrian sports involve inherent risk and that no helmet, or protective gear can protect against all foreseeable injury. I hereby accept this risk and hold harmless EC, the competition, their officials, organizers, agents, employees and their representatives. The person responsible (PR) agrees to the release of any information on the entry form to EC (A802.4).

In the event that ______participates in an Equestrian Canada sanctioned competition where protective headgear is required for juniors, he/she will wear properly fitted and fastened approved headgear at all times while riding at the event. It is understood that juniors not meeting this requirement will not be allowed to compete at this competition. (A802.6)

The Person Responsible (PR) for a horse must be an adult who has or shares responsibility for the care, training, custody and performance of the horse and who has official responsibility for that horse under EC Rules. The PR is liable under the penalty provisions of the applicable EC Rules for any rule violation. Every entry form for an EC sanctioned competition must identify the PR and be signed by the PR. For adult entries into EC sanctioned competitions, the PR shall be either the trainer, owner of the horse of the competitor who rides during the Ec sanctioned competition. For Junior entries into EC sanctioned competitions the junior competitor cannot be the PR. For junior entries the PR may be either the trainer, the owner of the horse or a parent/guardian of the junior competitor.

The Person Responsible (PR) must sign the competition entry form. PR must be an EC Sport License holder in good standing OR in the case of a junior/minor owner entries, a parent/guardian is entitled to sign as PR. In the case of USEF member entries PR may also be a USEF member in good standing.
