Wenatchee vs. Yakima Valley The new kid on the block, Yakima, is leading the division and with a 21-12 record, and is tied with Cor- vallis for the second best mark in the league. The Pippins have been victorious in seven of their last nine games. The AppleSox opened their WCL schedule with a three-game series a Yakima County Stadium. The host club won the initial game 4-3 and then Wenatchee came back to take the next two 7-1 and 3-2.

Yakima Valley’s manager is Marcus McKimmy who played second base and hit .250 for Wenatchee in 2006. Two of the Pippins pitchers are former AppleSox. Beau Kerns was here the past two years and had a 10-5 record, and Mitch Yada was 3-1 last summer with two saves.

Gillette Gets Grand Slam Joe Gillette whacked a ball out of Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla last night with the sacks full in the seventh inning for the 13th grand slam in Wenatchee history. Sox Slam Stuff - 10 in league games, 3 nonleague. - 5 at home, 8 away. - 10 wins, 2 losses. How can they be 10-2 and have 13 slams? See next line. - Jason Anderson, Sox catcher, actually drilled two slams in one game. It occurred in 2004 in a 20-10 nonleague win over the Victoria Royals in on Vancouver Island. - This is the second one against Walla Walla. Cabe Reiten hit one in 2012 in a 7-2 AppleSox home victory. Gillette’s four-bagger he became the 100th player to hit at least one home run for the AppleSox.

Stuff - Last night was the 51st extra-inning game played by Wenatchee in 15 years. The Sox are 28-23 in these overtime affairs. - It was their third extra-inning game against the Sweets and the second one they’ve lost. - At 14 it tied for the third most innings for Wenatchee. There was a 16 in 2005 and a 15 in ‘06. - Until last night the AppleSox had won six straight extra-frame games. - It was also a one-run game for the second night in a row, their 13th in 33 WCL games this season. July 17 Games With 10 games 7/10 has been somewhat of a quiet date, and also not among the better ones for the Ap- pleSox. The record: 4-6 overall, 3-6 league, 1-0 nonleague, 4-3 home and they have yet to win in three tries on the road. A year ago Kelowna won 8-3 in Wenatchee.
