  • My Esteemed Justice Ashok Bhushan, Shri Justice Vineet Saran, Shri
My esteemed Justice Ashok Bhushan, Shri Justice Vineet Saran, Shri Justice Krishna Murari – all Judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Shri Govind Mathur, Allahabad High Court, Chief Justice Shri Vikram Nath, Gujarat High Court, Shri Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta, Chairman, Committee for Monitoring Construction of Musuem, My other brother and sister Judges, Ladies and genlemen, I am glad to be part of the e-inauguration of the Law Musuem and Archies which perhaps is the first of its kind in the country. “A country that has few museums is both materially poor and spiritually poor …museums, like theatres and libraries, are a means to freedom.” – Wendy Beckett My father inspired me in many ways. He was very particular in taking children to various musuems whenever there was an occasion. He used to take us to the National Musuem, Dolls Musuem and Rail Musuem, Delhi. He even took us to Prince of Wales Musuem, Mumbai and Salarjung Musuem, Hyderabad. His above habit of taking us to museums developed in me a passion for museums. My interest in musuems got wings when Chief Justice Govind Mathur nominated me as Chairman to supervise the construction of the Judicial Museum at Allahabad. He entrusted the responsibility solely upon me, but on my request permitted me to have Shri Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta as the other Member. Subsequently, Shri Justice Siddhartha Varma was also added in the team. All three of us meticulously planned the construction of the musuem under the guidance and plan drawn by the Chief Justice. The foundation of the musuem was laid some time in September, 2019 by none other than the present Chief Guest and all the Judges of the Surpeme Court.

  • In the Supreme Court of India Civil Appellate Jurisdiction
1 IN THE SUPREME COURT OF INDIA CIVIL APPELLATE JURISDICTION CIVIL APPEAL NOS.4908-4909 0F 2019 NORTH DELHI MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ¼APPELLANT(S) VERSUS GNCTD ¼RESPONDENT(S) WITH CIVIL APPEAL NOS. 4906-4907 OF 2019 O R D E R 1. These appeals are by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation challenging a common order passed by the National Green Tribunal in two original applications seeking a direction to the Transport Department to permit the registration of water tankers. 2. By the Order impugned in these appeals, the National Green Tribunal dismissed the original applications on the short ground that an application by the Municipal Corporation is not maintainable in view of the scope of the jurisdiction of the Tribunal under Sections 14 and 15 of the National Green Tribunal Act, 2020. 3. Without going into niceties, it should be pointed out that the occasion for the Municipal Corporation to approach the National 2 Green Tribunal was a series of orders passed by this Court in Writ Petition (C) No.13029 of 1985 (M.C. Mehta vs. Union of India & Ors.) Therefore, during the pendency of the above appeals, certain directions were issued and an order came to be passed on 18.9.2020. The relevant portion of the order dated 18.9.2020 reads as follows:- ªInsofar as vehicles purchased upto 31.03.2020 which are BS-IV compliant are concerned, they must have been registered with the EVahan Portal before the cut-off date to establish the date of purchase. If the purchase had been made on or before 31.03.2020 and these vehicles are BS- IV compliant, such vehicles necessary for the Municipal Corporation to carry essential public utility services should also be registered.

SUPREME COURT OF INDIA Re: Filling up vacancies of Judges in the Supreme Court. Against the sanctioned Judge-strength of thirty-four, the Supreme Court of India is presently functioning with thirty Judges, leaving four clear vacancies. The Collegium has extensively deliberated and discussed names of Chief Justices and senior puisne High Court Judges eligible for appointment as Judges of the Supreme Court and has resolved to fill up all the four existing vacancies. The Collegium considers that the following four persons are more deserving and suitable in all respects than other Chief Justices and senior puisne Judges of High Courts, for being appointed as Judges of the Supreme Court of India: 1. Mr. Justice Krishna Murari, Chief Justice, Punjab & Haryana High Court, (PHC: Allahabad) 2. Mr. Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, Chief Justice, Rajasthan High Court, (PHC: Delhi) 3. Mr. Justice V. Ramasubramanian, Chief Justice, Himachal Pradesh High Court, (PHC: Madras) and 4. Mr. Justice Hrishikesh Roy, Chief Justice, Kerala High Court, (PHC: Gauhati). The Collegium, therefore, unanimously resolves to recommend that Mr. Justice Krishna Murari, Mr. Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, Mr. Justice V. Ramasubramanian, and Mr. 2 Justice Hrishikesh Roy, be appointed as Judges in the Supreme Court of India. While recommending the names of Mr. Justice Krishna Murari, Mr. Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, Mr. Justice V. Ramasubramanian, and Mr. Justice Hrishikesh Roy, the Collegium has taken into consideration combined seniority on all-India basis of Chief Justices and senior puisne Judges of High Courts, apart from their competence, conduct and integrity. The Collegium has also kept in mind the desirability of giving due representation on the Bench of the Supreme Court, as far as possible, to all the High Courts.
