Folliculitis Folliculitis is the most common complication occur- ring in practice, usually occurring about 3 weeks to 4 months postsurgery. It usually disappears spontaneously, but occasionally, a chronic recurrent form of folliculitis can develop. This may be due to a foreign body reaction of recipient dermis against the epidermal component of the transplanted hair or a small fragment of hair, as well as obstruction of a sebaceous gland, because no hair grafts have yet exited the scalp. Fortunately, this eventu- ally clears with time and rarely reduces eventual growth, although it can be delayed. On average, three injections spaced at 4 and 8 weeks will markedly improve the scar. Scar revision is usually unsuccessful (Figure 13.15). I have done a few W-plasty procedures with only one acceptable result, the others having no change. The FUE planting into the scar may be helpful. Micropigmentation into the scar may be considered. Effluvium or postoperative shock loss of existing hair might not grow back at the recipient site, especially the miniaturized hair. The effluvium at the donor area will grow back after 4 months. There is no treatment for efflu- vium other than to be patient. Ingrown hair is uncom- monly seen and needs to be removed. Because there is a constant influx of newcomers enter- ing the field of hair restoration, pitting is still commonly seen in hair practice today, sometimes in conjunction with poor hair direction and angle that can be difficult to correct. To assess whether a side effect is determined by a specific drug, different algorithms or scores (e.g. Naranjo, Karch, Kramer, and Begaud) have been developed. The knowledge of previous similar reports on drug reactions is a key point of most algorithms, therefore all adverse events should be recog- nised and reported to the scientific community. Furthermore, even if hair colour change is not a life-threatening side effect, it is of deep concern for patient’s quality of life and adherence to treatment. The system recommends hairstyles that suit the individual’s characteristics. This is based on a neural network learning algorithm, which is trained with features, extracted from 1060 images of people, relating to 53 different hairstyles. The trained network reaches an accuracy of 28.10% when validated with images that were not used for training. This can be improved by trying different combinations of input variables, or using a different conversion for the values that were gained from the APIs. It is also possible that the APIs are not completely accurate. A third possibility for improvement would be to use a different learning algorithm, such as k-Nearest Neighbors or naive Bayes. Greger, RIII, from L.J. Cunningham, IE August 8, 1983 - copy enclosed).- Licensee and inspectors have inquired as to what constitutes an acceptable method for performing quantitative fitting of the wearers of this apparatus as required in footnote 1, to Appendix A of Part 20; specifically, is it acceptable to check the fit of the device (the face to facepiece sealing capability) by testing the user while the user is wearing just the facepiece equipped with a high efficiency filter supplied by the manufacturer of the device. Previous guidance stated that the wearer must don the entire unit for-fit testing since it was 'felt that' fitting the face- piece with a high efficiency filter that is capable of allowing no more than 0.03% leakage would preclude measurement of the required 0.02% leakage or less through the face to facepiece sealing area. However, the 0.03% leakage allowed for high efficiency filters is determined with a more penetrating aerosol (monodispersed) than used in fit testing.
