    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Rocky Horror Picture Show Film Screening Party With Barry Bostwick Coming to The Hanover Theatre Worcester, Mass. (August 2, 2016) Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic film, actor Barry Bostwick is heading to The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts on Friday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. to present The 40th Anniversary Rocky Horror Picture Show Film Screening Party. Fans will have the opportunity to view the film, enter a costume contest judged by Barry, then hear behind-the-scenes stories straight from “Brad” himself as Barry Bostwick takes to the stage and engages in a talkback and audience Q&A. For the past four decades, fans have been giving themselves over to absolute pleasure, dressing up as their favorite Rocky Horror character, shouting out lines and singing along. Audience members are encouraged to come in costume as their character of choice and be a part of the audience as they dance the Time Warp and sing their loudest “Hot Patootie” during the film. One person will go home with the glory as the winner of the costume contest, selected by Barry Bostwick himself. From his portrayal of the quintessential all-American “Brad Majors” in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” to the hilarious Mayor Randall Winston on ABC’s “Spin City,” Barry Bostwick has had quite a career spanning all genres and mediums of show business. He portrayed George Washington in the two-part Peabody award-winning CBS miniseries epic “George Washington” and won a Golden Globe for his performance as Lieutenant “Lady” Aster in ABC’s presentation of “War and Remembrance.” Barry has recently recurred on several hit television series --more-- including “Scandal,” “Glee,” “The New Normal,” Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” and the 2-hour musical episode of “Psych.” Tickets to The 40th Anniversary Rocky Horror Picture Show Film Screening Party are $29.

    R15 CADET CARRIES THE OLYMPIC TORCH 15 year old Cadet Brandon Zadel from Salem, NH, a member of the USS Tsunami in Manchester, NH, was one of the runners of the 2001 Olympic Torch in Boston, MA.     THE OPPRESSION AND SEXISM OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN: THEN AND NOW SUBSTANTIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATRE by KELLI OWENS A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Honors in the Major Program in Musical Theatre in the College of Arts and Humanities and in the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida Orlando, Florida Spring Term, 2014 Thesis Chair: Earl Weaver, MFA © 2014 Kelli Owens ii ABSTRACT A wise Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Freedom is never given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed (King 1).” For as long as men and women have shared the planet, sexism has been a universal issue in civilization. In a social justice context, American society has found ways to oppress people for centuries. The Oxford Dictionary defines sexism as a “prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex (“sexism”).” Voting rights in America were established in 1790, but it took years of petitioning at various women’s rights conventions before the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution stating "the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex" was passed in 1920 (“Nineteenth Amendment”). Traditionally, men were supposed to be the strong, decisive, driven, courageous, money-making breed, while women were expected to be the nurturing, affectionate, weak subordinates. Today, we find men and women working in careers previously linked with sexism; men as nurses and teachers, women as CEOs and factory workers.
