Service Summary FALL 2019 CHANGES Effective September 3, 2019

This document outlines the upcoming fall 2019 schedule changes for the South - Similkameen Transit System for implementation on September 3, 2019. Fall changes include an expansion of 1,800 annual service hours and two buses.

Changes include the addition of a new route:  70 / o Two round trips at commuter times every weekday o Two midday round trips on Mondays to improve connections to other areas within the South Okanagan-Similkameen Region o Fares are $5 per trip and monthly passes are available o Replaces the existing route 60 Kelowna

The following route is discontinued:  60 /Kelowna o Replaced by the new route 70 Penticton/Kelowna and additional Monday service on the route 40 Osoyoos/Penticton.

There are also changes to the following routes:  40 Osoyoos/Penticton o Two added round trips on Mondays o By-request service extension to Summerland discontinued due to low ridership o The routing is now fixed in Penticton and Oliver, and the bus stop location has been relocated to the Fire Hall in

 50 Princeton/Penticton o Minor trip time adjustments to integrate with new route 70 Penticton/Kelowna

Service Change Details New Route 70 Penticton/Kelowna

FALL 2019 CHANGE: Effective September 3

Change Overview:  Two round trips at commuter times every weekday  Two midday round trips on Mondays to improve connections to other areas within the South Okanagan-Similkameen Region  Fares are $5 per trip and monthly passes are available

Key Benefits to Change:  Provides new weekday service connecting the South Okanagan to the Kelowna Region

Considerations:  Replaces the existing route 60 Osoyoos/Kelowna  Riders must transfer onto the Kelowna Regional Transit System at Westbank Exchange or Downtown Kelowna to reach other key destinations in the Kelowna Region

Service Change Details Routing and Service Level Change 40 Osoyoos/Penticton

FALL 2019 CHANGE: Effective September 3

Change Overview:  Two round trips added on Mondays o This was accomplished by reallocating the low ridership by-request service extension to Summerland  This route will now follow a fixed routing, with the exception of on- request service to Kaleden  The bus stop in Kaleden has been relocated to the Fire Hall o This new stop location allows a larger bus to safely turn around

Key Benefits to Change:  Improved service on Mondays  Improved service clarity and efficiency  Route and bus stop changes prepare the route for operation with a larger bus later in Fall 2019

Considerations:  On-request route deviations have been discontinued, with the exception of service to the Kaleden Fire Hall

Service Change Details Schedule Change 50 Princeton/Penticton

FALL 2019 CHANGE: Effective September 3

Change Overview:  Trip time changes to integrate with the new route 70 Penticton/Kelowna

Key Benefits to Change:  Allows riders from Coalmont, Princeton, Hedley, Keremeos, Cawston, Olalla, and Kaleden to connect with service to Kelowna on Mondays

Considerations:  Service departs Princeton earlier in the morning and Penticton earlier in the afternoon

Service Change Details Discontinued Route 60 Osoyoos/Kelowna

FALL 2019 CHANGE: Effective September 3

Change Overview:  This route is discontinued  Route is replaced by the new route 70 Penticton/Kelowna and additional Monday service on the route 40 Osoyoos/Penticton.

Key Benefits  Improved service between Osoyoos and Penticton on Mondays  Lower overall fare to Kelowna  Saves resources by avoiding service duplication

Considerations  Riders from Osoyoos, Oliver, , and Kaleden must transfer in Penticton to continue to Kelowna  Riders must transfer at Westbank Exchange and Downtown Kelowna to reach other key destinations in the Kelowna Region.

How are Service Changes Developed? This service change was based on:  The system’s long term Transit Future Plan.  Recent public engagement conducted in December 2018, including an online survey and open houses hosted throughout the South Okanagan-Similkameen Region.  Recent feedback from customers, front line staff, major employers and area local governments.  Detailed route analysis to best match service to customer demand.
