Apologies: Apologies were received and accepted from Pat Earl Trewidland Village Hall Committee. Pat Earl had sent a report which was read out by Cllr Mackie. Welcome by the Chair. Cllr Scott welcomed everyone to the Annual Parish Meeting for Dobwalls and Trewidland Parish. Trewidland School – a representative said that Trewidland School has become a part of SMART (SE Cornwall Multi Academy Trust) and sits in the group as the smallest school. This is part of safe guarding education for the children of the area for the future. The number of pupils continues to increase and there is an active pre-school and toddler group which feeds into the main school. The aim is to achieve ten new pupils per year. Trewidland Community Group – The primary driver is working with the Village Hall to obtain the funding to build a new hall and the group has started working with designers for this. The Parish Council was thanked for giving the funding which was used to achieve the planning permission for the new hall and this has been granted. The group is encouraging more social activity in the village. Trewidland Village Hall – report from the Village Hall committee on current activities was read out by Councillor Mackie Tim Gray, Head Teacher at Dobwalls Primary School said that the big news in terms of moving the school forward is SMART. The community aspect of the school is being developed. The key focus is building learning power, which is about learning to learn, and installing strategies for this, around which a key area is the community aspect and developing reciprocity links in the community. The school is inviting people to come and have lunch with the children which will also help the children to recognise who their community is and this is a crucial part of the development of the school in the coming year. 7 Cllr Francis said that both schools have parking problems and there was discussion around this. Public Open Forum - A member of the public said that there are problems where Highways has put up barriers at the Treburgie Water end of the old road, people are driving over the grass. It could do with posts at the top to prevent vehicular access. Another member of the public said that dog walkers are allowing their dogs to foul on the grass verge outside his property on the corner of Havett Close. Cllr Scott advised him to contact the Cornwall Council Dog Warden if the perpetrators can be identified. The Parish Council will try and get more signs put up in the village warning dog owners of the fines that can be incurred. Linda Coles Dobwalls annual Charity Beer Festival – storming along! Despite the appalling weather over the weekend the Beer Festival was surprisingly well attended. Luckily the beverages on offer didn’t get watered down by the torrential downpours and a good time was had by all. One ale (Alfies Revenge – Driftwood Spars Brewery) was finished completely and three others were running close to empty by close of play. There was a similar situation with the four ciders on offer. The barbeque was up to its normal high standard but it wasn’t exactly BBQ weather and the uptake was affected accordingly. Jay Carter raised everyone’s spirits in the marquee on Friday night with Sam Chapman keeping the atmosphere hot in the pub afterwards. On Saturday the Ukeabillies followed by Mark Tween had the marquee rocking into the early evening until Sgt Flint took over in the pub with their usual excellent performance. Although attendance was down on previous years it is expected that in excess of £1,500 will have been raised in total over the festival to be shared between this year’s charities, the Cornwall Air Ambulance and Cornwall Hospice Care. Thanks go to everyone involved for their efforts and especially to the Highwayman, without whose facilities the occasion would not be possible. Hopefully the weather will be kinder next year when it is planned to combine the weekend’s beer festival with a family fun day at the pub on the Saturday. Watch out for advance information! Dave, the organiser writes: “'The Liskeard and Looe Foodbank was started by local churches almost 8 years ago as a direct response to the poverty witnessed in our towns and villages to bring emergency food aid to those in crisis. Since then the Foodbank has distributed over 100 tonnes of food to more than 8,500 local people. All the food has been donated by the community. The donated food is made up in to food parcels containing at least 3 days of nutritionally balanced food which is distributed to those people who are referred to the foodbank by frontline services by way of a food voucher. Ideally food needs to be non-perishable (tinned, dried or long-life) and the varieties of food we are most in need of at present are: vegetables (peas, carrots, potatoes, sweet corn), meat (ham, corned-beef etc), fruit, tomatoes, rice pudding, fruit juice and UHT/dried milk. All food needs to be 'in date' and in good condition. We also ask for toiletries, nappies and pet food. We are very grateful for the help and support of the local churches with food, finance, prayer and volunteers.' We did indeed have a great get together on a lovely sunny afternoon as you can see. The Village Hall was packed, the children from the school spoke, and sang, parents supplied delicious food, and lots of people from across the age spectrum joined us. As a bonus we also raised £30 for the Jo Cox Foundation. from https://www.facebook.com/trewidlandcommunitygroup/ June was busy because on 24th we had lots of fun at our midsummer event which included a treasure hunt, a shared supper, skittles, table tennis, and a licensed bar.
