Government First Grade College, Uppinangady is one of the oldest colleges in Dakshina district established in the year 1982. The College aims at providing higher education to rural poor students of . The college has imparted education to the students of Puttur, Belthangady, Sullia and Bantwal Taluks over the last 39 years. The distinctiveness of our college is empowerment poor, rural and girl students. The college is striving hard to empower poor rural girl students in the followings areas: 1. Education of rural students: Government First Grade college, Uppinangady is located in the village of Uppinangady. Our College has provided opportunity of higher education to the rural and poor students of Puttur Taluk since 1982. Our College offers quality higher education to rural students at affordable cost. We provide higher education to rural youths especially for economically and socially backward communities. College fosters leadership qualities and provides an opportunity for integral growth of personality of rural youths. We instill knowledge, skills and values among the youths and make them academically and socially competent. Girls students are provided with free-ships. The fee of girl students is reimbursed. 2. Empowerment of Women: Although our college is a co-educated college, more than 70% of the students are girls. College provides fees concession for girl students as per the government guidelines. Girls students are encouraged to participate in various inter-class, inter-college cultural and sports competitions. Girls students of our college has participated in national level cultural competitions. College has conducted inter-college level rural sports for women students of University. The college has a women cell which conducts programmes for the empowerment of girl students. 3. ICT enabled Classrooms: Although the college is located in the rural area, most of the classrooms and seminar hall of the college are equipped with ICT facility. This has helped the teachers to conduct the classes with power point presentation. Students of our college also uses ICT facility for their seminars. Free laptops are distributed to all first year students during 2019-20. This has facilitated the technology enabled teaching process. 4. Human Values: The college is imparting human values among the students. Students of our college are sympathetic to the poor and rural people who are affected by flood. The students have helped the flood victims.
