Did you know that the entire 2020 USA Olympic Team for Open Water Swimming, including the Head Coach, has a connection to SCS? We also recognize and honor the rich legacy and history of open water swimming in Southern California including SCS representation on all of the Olympic Open Water Swimming Teams (2008 Olympics to present). Tokyo Los Angeles 5471 Miles DATES of EVENT: Monday March 1, 2021 through Sunday August 29, 2021 (26 weeks) GOAL Total Distance: 5471 Miles (distance between Los Angeles, CA and Tokyo, Japan.) DISTANCE is calculated as follows: Pool – One Mile equals 1650 yards or 1500 meters in the pool Dryland – One Mile equals 30 minutes of dryland Open Water – One Mile equals 30 minutes of open water swimming EVENTS: EVENT EVENT DETAILS NUMBER 1 Mixed 5471 Miles All Athletes (includes ALL distances recorded during Pool, Dryland, and Open Water Practices and Meets 2 Mixed 5471 Miles OPEN WATER LIMITED to distances recorded during Open Water Practices and Open Water Meets ONLY. 3 Mixed 5471 Miles RELAY ALL Relays (consisting of 2-8 Athletes from the same CLUB). Mixed Relays may include any number of each gender. FINAL 19FEB2021 Page 1 of 3 ELIGIBILITY: Athletes and Clubs must be currently registered with USA Swimming in the Southern California LSC for 2021. ENTRIES AND INSTRUCTIONS: 1. There is NO ENTRY FEE for this special virtual event. 2. Enter the Meet using the ENTRY LINK on the SCS Website under MEETS. Enter ALL Athletes individually. Athletes may enter BOTH the Mixed 5471 Miles and Mixed 5471 Miles OPEN WATER events. 3. Record the total weekly distance completed by each Athlete (Note: Each “WEEK” is calculated as Monday through Sunday): Pool – One Mile equals 1650 yards or 1500 meters in the pool Dryland – One Mile equals 30 minutes of dryland Open Water – One Mile equals 30 minutes of open water swimming 4. All distances must be completed during the Event Dates Monday March 1, 2021 through Sunday August 29, 2021. 5. Enter the distance as “whole” miles (round-up partial distances) into the spreadsheet received from Meet Manager listing your Athletes. There is one total weekly distance entered per athlete/per week (maximum total of 26 weeks). EXAMPLES: “Athlete 1” – Dryland (1.5 hrs = 3 miles); Pool SCY (7400 yards = 4.5 miles); Open Water (30 minutes = 1 mile). Add 3 + 4.5 + 1= 8.5 miles; Round-up to 9 Miles and enter 9 into spreadsheet for “Athlete 1”. “Athlete 2” – Dryland (3 hours = 6 miles); Enter 6 into spreadsheet for “Athlete 2” “Athlete 3” – Dryland (5 hours = 10 miles); Pool LCM (20,000 meters = 13.3 miles); Add 10 + 13.3 = 23.3 miles; Round up to 24 miles and enter 24 into spreadsheet for “Athlete 3”. “Athlete 4” – Open Water (4.5 hours = 9 miles); Enter 9 into spreadsheet for “Athlete 4”. 6. Submit completed spreadsheets every TWO WEEKS via email to [email protected] (spreadsheets may be hand completed and attached via scanned or photo image). 7. Relays and Additional Athletes/Clubs may be added throughout the Event Dates using the ENTRY LINK. 8. Enter RELAYS as NAME OF CLUB “A”, NAME OF CLUB “B”, etc. Relays will consist of at least TWO (2) to a maximum of EIGHT (8) Athletes from the same CLUB. Mixed Relays may include any number of each gender (e.g., 4 girls + 2 boys, 3 boys + 1 girl, 2 girls + 1 boy, etc.). The distances for each Relay Member will be automatically copied over from their Individual event totals. 9. FINAL ENTRIES and TOTALS are due NO LATER than Tuesday, September 7, 2021 AWARDS: Look for FUN Recognition and Awards to be announced throughout the Event.
