ANNUAL REPORT 2016-‘17

As Surana College completes 22 years of service in the field of education and the 19th batch of students leave the institution to face the world, we look back with gratitude the sacrifice and hard work of our beloved Founder Chairman, Sri G.C.Surana. Isaac Newton said, “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants“. Today if we have seen further and gone forward, it is by standing on the shoulders of our Founder Chairman. We aspire to follow the vision and philosophy of our Founder to provide an all round education to our students.

We thank our Chairman, GDA Foundation, Sri Dilip Surana for his pragmatic approach to various issues of the college and support. He had guided us to provide an education that encompasses the academic, physical, cultural, social and spiritual dimensions.

Dr Archana Surana, our Managing Trustee advices and administers the affairs of the college efficiently on a day to day basis and we are most thankful to her. Her hard work and deep concern in planning and executing systematically all activities of the college with passion has helped us to nurture our precious students with care.

The office is headed by Mr Girish.G and Mr.Karunasekara Reddy supported by their staff and we record our appreciation to them for manning the office with efficiency.

We are indeed fortunate to have a team of well-qualified and efficient Heads of Departments, Librarians, Committee Chair persons and we record our deep gratitude to their contribution to the college.

Our most valuable assets are our dedicated, motivated and contented teaching staff. These faithful people have brought this institution to the place of influence that it now enjoys. We are grateful to them. Our loyal and selfless field and support staff work round the clock to provide a clean and comfortable place for us to work in and we thank them. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell and the Academic/Administrative audit committee worked hard to assess and assure that quality was maintained.

We are thankful to our Alumni and our parents who stand by us and encourage us.We are proud of our students. They include smart academicians, debaters, managers, creative writers, photographers, ramp models, quizzers, dancers, dramatists, scientists, athletes and even movie stars! You name them and we

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Engineering Sciences in 2003.

The essence of his speech is: “There is this popular saying TINA (There is no alternative to nuclear energy) India’s population will touch 1.7 billion in 2017. Accg to Sukhatme’s calculations, we will need a nuclear reactor for every 11 km along the coastal line. This is not feasible. Moreover India cannot afford nuclear disasters. India lacks adequate disaster management programmes .India does not need a nuclear energy expansion

There are plenty of viable alternatives for nuclear power. Wind and Solar energies are not as expensive as portrayed. Solar power tariff is Rs 4 per unit and wind tariff Rs 3.46per unitThus renewable solar and wind power are competitive

A popular Buddha quotes ‘Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumoured by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.’

Thus after thorough investigation and reflection shape your life accordingly for a better future.”
