This weeks Sports Close Up is with Y11 student Lucy Ormondroyd.

Lucy, who has been diving since she was 9 years old, took part in the UK’s longest running inter-club challenge representing the City of Diving Club. She joined the club in October 2009, and her current coach is James Denny. James represented at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, winning a silver medal alongside his partner Tom Daley in the 10 m platform synchro, and classifying 6th in the individual event. Lucy trains with other divers who competed in the London Olympics 2012 and the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Lucy trains between 4 and 5 times a week at John Charles Centre for Sport. She dives from all 3 boards. Lucy competes both as an individual, performing somersaults and twists, and also competes in synchronised diving with a variety of partners.

As well as Luton, Lucy has also competed in Harrogate, Leeds, Plymouth, Sheffield and Edinburgh. On average she competes 6 times a year and she hops to start coaching other divers soon.

Lucy is no stranger to top level sport having competed as a gymnast for many years and now moving onto pole vault.

Lucy not only puts a huge amount of hours and effort into diving, she also maintains an outstanding attitude towards her studies and has a fantastic attendance record. Lucy believes her resilience and dedication comes from the discipline of competition.

Well done Lucy, you are fantastic role model.
