BURRINGBAR P.S PRESENTATION DAY 2020 We are very excited to share that Presentation Day will be held on Wednesday 9th December at 9.30am. This has been a difficult year for us all, but luckily we are one of only a few schools who due to our big undercover area and relatively small school population will be able to meet the COVID requirements to have parents at school for Presentation Day. In order to attend you will need to read and be aware of the following requirements: • Only 1 family member will be able to be in attendance for Years K-5 with Year 6 students able to have 2 family members. Unfortunately, this will include small children. Please ensure you complete the form sent home last week before the event or you can RSVP by School Stream. Unfortunately due to COVID requirements no one will allowed to attend unless they have pre-booked. • Guests will only enter through the back gate. Guests will be required to have their name checked off, check in and be seated in their seat. • Everyone will be required to stay in their seats once seated. Please be aware some seating will be out of the undercover area and could be in the sun. Please bring a hat and sunscreen. • There are many requirements around singing and performing this year. Due to this not all students will perform and no large groups will be allowed to sing. We look forward to seeing you at our school. It will be great to have you here in our school as the first major event since COVID. Students will link in with mentors from selected fields during 2020. Keen dancer, Year 6 student Olivia has recently been mentored by our very own Mrs Cross! Together Olivia and Mrs Cross have been working to collaborate and choreograph a performance for our end of year formalities. A word from our mentee – Olivia Olivia said “Mrs. Cross is a great teacher and makes learning so much fun. Getting to teach others with the same interest of mine is amazing and I have learnt how to be a much better leader for others while learning more about dance. Together we are choreographing a performance for school presentation day. I have learnt the importance of timing, music selection and a variety of dances. I think I can now more easily identify the dances that I like too.” A word from our mentor – Mrs Cross Mrs Cross explains “I have thoroughly enjoyed mentoring and working with Olivia on her dance project through the 3-6 Dance Group. Together we explored dance that inspired us and from this developed a story through music selection, choreography and formations involving student input and expression throughout the weekly dance group sessions. Teaching Olivia the skills to mix down her own music using Garageband to support her ideas and bring them to life through dance and working with others has been very special. I have no doubt she will go on to create many more inspiring performances and mentor others in the future through her passion and love for dance.” Finally, we are incredibly thankful for all your input and support Mrs Cross. We know that Thursdays can be very busy at Burringbar but the dance crew are always excited to rehearse. We appreciate you not only supporting Olivia but our entire dance club. We look forward to seeing this group showcase their talent at our end-of-year celebrations. Mr Dennerley School Magazine We have a 2020 school magazine coming. Regional Funding – for big projects with up to 70% to be paid for by the DET. Is the P&C interested in doing a contribution with the school. We discussed transitioning the school uniform from polyester material to more a sustainable material, such as hemp. Peter advised that we would need to start by putting a survey to parents to get feedback on whether they would see a want or a need for change. We discussed working out costing for viability. It was noted that the current material has UV protection and new material would need to meet certain codes. Karina has approached Hemp Clothing Australia for pricing to conduct initial research. The P&C annual audit was discussed as was the need for a new accountant. She was advised that they are able to offer this service and Brian Meldrum will her back to discuss further. A handover of duties was noted and Nina, Peter, Karina and Jodie will meet to note down important information and document procedures for the running of P&C. Jodie contacted Brian from Mayberry Meldrum & Anderson in regards to annual audits for P&C. The wooden school sign is needing to be replaced due to the wood rotting and it is becoming a safety hazard. Lee from Cubby Creations has been approached to see if he can replace the sign. Outdoor education opportunities were discussed. Students will link in with mentors with career different backgrounds this year. Keen Year 6 field athlete Tahj - has recently been mentored by Australian Olympic hammer throw and discus athlete Matthew Denny. Matty, just 24 years old - hailed from small town called Allora near Toowoomba has risen through the ranks of little athletics, regional competitions and the international circuit to winning the silver medal at the recent 2018 Commonwealth Games in front of his home crowd on the Gold Coast. A word from our mentee – Tahj I was inspired by my zoom call with Matthew Denny. We got to learn things about him. He spoke about his training routine, what foods he has to give up to be in good shape (such as chocolate). I really appre- ciated this call as did the other interested students who were able to listen and ask Matty some questions about his time as an athlete.
